Sorry for your ticket, but you need to check your crap before you go!! You need to check the regs before you hunt an area! This is part of being a hunter!! I just hope it dosen't put a bad taste in your kid mouth, from your mistake!

I hate to be the first to write this, but I heard from one of the seasoned hunters I know it is 50 bucks per shell, ouch

did you expect to more or at least get a different reply by posting here & Calguns ? Just wondering .It might make it worse that it was on a Reserve / Refuge . I am not the sharpest crayon in the box & have to go through my gear the night before I go to bed , after I wake up & then as I put it into the car . Even with all of that , I ended up doing " scouting trips " as I left my ammo at home . Take it for what it was . A hard lesson learned . Hopefully they will not screw the crap out of you . If you can find a lawyer that specializes in your type of case , look into it . Like people have posted here & there . $50.00 a rd to 350.00 a rd . It might be a lot of money . I personally know someone that got caught for fishing w/o a license . it was $700.ish . Judge made it half . What he hated the most was that it was the one and only time he ever fished & he was the only one that ever got caught fishing from the oil rig by the DFG with binos from the pier no less . DFG had the sheriffs boat take him out there to give him the ticket . Expect the worse , hope for the best .

If you live in the area where the ticket was issued, do yourself a favor and go stand in front of the judge. It may take a little extra time, but if you've never had a previous offense, he may drop the fine a bit. Especially if you explain you were with your son and trying to get him into the activity of hunting.

I'm confused. So what happened? Hunting in a reserve or hunting with lead ammo in a non lead area? I thought rabbits were ok for lead ammo. Did the rules change this year?

I was hunting with a 16guage shotgun for rabbits on Grizzly Island. Shotgun only, lead free only area. I grabbed the wrong box ( Hi Brass) thinking it was the lead free ammo. In any event I got a ticket. I dont mind paying a fine, I did make the mistake. Was just wondering if someone here knew the calculation for how much its gonna cost? Not the "its gonna be alot" or "I think its" When the bill comes in I'll post the amount...

OK I understand now it had nothing to do with being in a Condor lead free area, it's a waterfowl rule that the whole area is lead shot free. I was confused because you were rabbit hunting and that is permitted with lead ammo in the condor zones.

It's a good thing I am not a Game Warden, because it would go something like this." Look dude, I know this state is screwed up and you hunters are getting the shaft-----sooooooo, I'm gonna overlook this but dude, it better not happen again. Now get out of here."It's kinda like calling on the National Guard to fire on American civilians----------sorry, I'm not doing it and have a hard time knowing that guys like these have no problem issuing tickets, or ATF has no problem raiding your home and taking your guns away--. Anyway, I guess it just kinda heats me up a bit.

I was thinking and hoping it was gonna go down like that. I knew it was a lead free zone, I just made the mistake of getting to excited and grabbed the wrong shells. We parked, put our orange hats on, put five shells in our pockets, grabbed the shotgun and took off. I admit I made the mistake and should be fined, just hoping its not too much..
