for the past few months i've been training my 1.5 year old chocolate lab for some bird hunting. she's advancing pretty well and im hoping to have her dialed in for her first season of birds. only problem is i dont know of any local spots to take her hunting. and i dont really have a group of fellow hunters to go with. all of my hunting buddys go out of state and i just can't afford to make a trip like that. i am planning on taking her to raahauge's for her first time, mainly to enforce the idea of what we r doing and to be guaranted to get on birds for her. mainly as a training hunt. would anyone be interested in having a new hunting partner and a new dog for this coming seasons?

Hi Socal,I have spots to hunt, and a New to Me GPS to start, so I'd be happy to team up. I'm in Pasadena, and I hunt around SoCal, in such places as Jawbone, Inyokern, Lucern Valley, Los Padres NF, and some Mountain Quail hotspots. Into Chukar, quail, ducks. I am going to try to get my dog trained up for a little action this fall, but serious action by the end of Winter, when I get into the ducks. Need a training partner, and so we can help each other out. Whatcha think? my email is richmellott@gmail.com. Shoot me an email, if you're interested, and we can figure this out a little further. Also going out for Jacks this week, and to do some more scouting, but it looks like a dynamite year shaping up.R

Birds will be plentiful this season. Probably better'n we've seen in more than 10 yrs. The Cajon pass and that area will have birds. That's pretty close to you. Newberry Springs, Marl Springs, Lanfair, Victorville, Barstow. I've seen birds this year all over the place. Find water and you'll find birds. Knowing where the guzzlers are is the most important thing. My lab is almost 6 now. She's worked out to be a really fantastic upland bird dog and like all labs, a great companion too. Posted ImageI should have a new dog by the openner, an english pointer. That should increase my success too. She's still with a trainer, but here's her picPosted Image
It's not about how many, it's about how.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog or gun

Maintain a balance of nature, use a beautiful gun when shooting a beautiful bird
