hi,im a farely new hunter, never taken big game. just got my recurve longbow around 6 months ago. anyway, i know i missed the june 2nd deadline... but i was wondering if i were to take my hunters ed this weed and get my hunters license this week. do i have a chance of getting a deer tag anywhere in the LA - Kern county area? preferably kern river area (d-9 d-8 x-10 x-9c). im just wondering if i even have a chance or if i have to wait a whole other year... any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

First, Welcome to the forum... Hope you like it hereArchery Only (AO) tags allows you to hunt any A, B or D zone in the archery or general hunting seasons. X zones are premium deer tags only and must go through the drawing to hunt in. As you say, you will have to wait until next year for these better x-zones.You should do yourself a favor and pick up a 2011 big game "Hunting Digest". F&G offices will have them. I suppose much, if not all of this info is also on line but I have not looked specifically for that. Finally, take up "predator hunting", a REAL (fun) sport... LOL sorry, couldn't help myself (on the last part). Good LuckFrank

after the draw, if there are leftover tags you can apply for them...

Last year they did not sell all of the D8 tags. The D9 tags were all sold out on 8/4/10. You should have a very good chance of getting either one of these two tags this year. D13 tags are always available also.

D11, D13, and D15 tags are pretty much always available. Nice thing about these 3 tags is any 1 of them is also good in the other 2 zones. I Usually get a D13 tag and with that I can hunt D11 and 15 if I want to.Here is a list of OTC tags (OverTheCounter) that are still available. As of right now there are none that have sold out.http://nrm.dfg.ca.go...amp;inline=true
