Tim and I got out Sunday to do some rabbit and squirrel shootting with the bows.. Tim got one Jack that whent down a large hole. He lost one of three arows trying to get it...... We had a few shots at some more jacks and a couple of goephers but no luck. I shot at a squirrel missed walked up to the arrow leanning up next to wire fence and a small bush. Started to get the arrow, stopped and backed up. Miss rattle snake was standing gard under it. Put an arrow through its haed ... Meat in freezer and sken in the freeser for now. Had fun. Saw this big goepher snake also, let it go about its way...Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

That could have been bad. Did it rattle or did you notice it first?

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I wondered the same thing. I don't see the classic triangular head. Did it have rattles?Posted Image

There is quite a few rattle snakes where I hunt. I kill every one I can. One of my friends was bit last month. 4 days in the hospital and over 30 vials anti-venom. I can't afford to be bit, if the snake bite did not kill me the hospital bill would.

Oops. I thought I was looking at different pictures of the same snake. Going back for a second look I now see the rattles near the right edge of the frame. D'oh! Glad you got him before he got you!

Wow, that was TOOOO close. Glad you got him before he got you... and know you are too of course. lolI HATE rattle snakes. And what is so amazing is, that I just bought snake gaiters a couple months ago for the first time. I cannot believe I hunted quail & predators all these years without ever trying them before. Guess I'm now trying to live as long as I can in my old age? LOLAnyway, :signs1242cn: Frank

About two months ago I was out with some guys sitting around the fire talking about snakes and one pulled up his pants leg to show the chunk of leg he now doesn't have because of a rattler.Gaiters are definitely on my list of stuff to buy before hunting season.
