I'm heading back up to Kern July 2-4. Gonna do some fishing and bag some cotton tails at my rabbit spot. I would like to check out Isabella for some Bowfishing, but I heard most guys use a boat up there.

Dirtydave : I would like to go with someone that has extra gear for me to use BUT , isn't that the weekend of the Big Bear Trout Classic ???? If so everyone & their mom will be up there . Also , Are you going to the Carp round up ? i saw pics were people took ladders out into the lake to shoot from . Andy

Ya that lake is pretty deep to wade in, but I think you can along the south fork of the kern. It dumps into the lake.

Didnt realize there was a trout tourny that weekend. I think I'm still going.I have an extra setup that my brother usually uses. We can share with ya

do you need any other licensing other than a ca fishing license to bowfish? and can you just bowfish anywhere theres fishing? like the kern river?

Just a fishing lic2.25. Bow and Arrow Fishing. Bow and arrow fishing is permitted only for the taking of carp, goldfish, western sucker, Sacramento blackfish, hardhead, Sacramento pikeminnow and lamprey, all year, except in:(a) Designated salmon spawning areas.(B ) The Colorado River District where only carp, tilapia, goldfish and mullet may be taken.(C ) See bullfrogs (Section 5.05).(d) The East Fork Walker River between Bridgeport Dam and the Nevada State line where carp only may be taken during trout season.

so pretty much anywhere excluding the areas noted above? NICE. Is there a good time to go? I wont be able to until the end of July

I dont know if there is a good time but i see them dang things everywhere in that lake!!! And they're huge!! lol

Sooooo, Dirty dave , did you go up ???? How was it ? fishing , archering , carping , trouting ???? I still have a " itching " to go up for trout . Just trying to make sure that I have somewhere to crash for a mid day nap before coming home . Andy

Yeah we went up and shot a few carp. There was a group of 6 guys and we rented a pontoon. Had a pretty fun weekend. The place was not overrun by trout fisherman like I thought it would be.Going back up for the Tourny in 2 weeks
