It says they compost all of the rabbits. That sure sounds like a waste but with as many as they have everybody is probably tired of them.

Look at those tallies at the bottom of the story! So much for the idea of over-hunting.

I don't think it's possible to overhunt some species like rabbits and wild hogs because they are so prolific. It may be possible to drive their numbers down in some areas but they will come right back. You may even be able to move them with enough pressure on their numbers from extreme hunting but I don't think you can erradicate them. They used to have massive rabbit drives around here when my dad was a kid and when his dad was a kid where they would drive them into some sort of enclosure and beat them to death with clubs. They did it all the time because the rabbits were so bad. They really did want to erradicate them but it didn't work no matter how hard they tried. It was a big community event and even the kids would get into it and be out clubbing rabbits. We still have lots of rabbits today.

The irony of the european rabbit is countries like New Zealand struggle to control the population and declare them a pest, but in Spain where rabbits are native they have programs to save them from extinction.

I have heard about those hunts over a few years now they have a huge population explosion and they do a round up.I have seen some old pictures from the 20' of the jack rabbit round ups east of me like Jason mentioned. They did a good job because we don't have any jacks in this area anymore:(.Cotton tails we do I have seen a bunch of little ones running around.http://www.flickr.co...N00/2325665428/I bet now it would be fun with all the varmint rifles we have now.

If we did this in CA, they would band us for ever, the tree huggers would have a field day with us. When I was a teen we would take our trucks with the kc light on looking for jacks on a ranch and have some fun. I am guessing, the most we ever killed in a single night was about 12 or 16 jacks. never close to this. Looks like fun.
