Spent Saturday and Sunday chasing the chukar in the Ord Mtns in San Bernardino Co.WON must have suggested the spot as opening morning found us not alone with about 75-100 other hunters descending on this area. This desert area was green from recent thunderstorms the past couple months and the chukar numbered in the several hundreds.Anyway, my brother, his buddy and myself scored limits both days.We earned them, lots of up and down hill walking. Our totals were 36 chukar for 115 shots; this included 4 downed birds we were unable to locate after searching. Also spotted a bobcat, working the hillside some chukar were on in the morning. It didn't seem too concerned about me, as it was trying to stalk some breakfast about 60 yards away.Eventually. it decided to trot off and headed up the rocky hillside.I'm surprised he showed himself at all, 8am in the morning, considering the number of shots being fired in the area. This was my first up close encounter with a bobcat; 20ga mod with low 6s wasn't going to do a thing.Anyway, the weekend was a successful and fun trip....except for the sore and stiff muscles

It still sounds like a successful hunt. The chucker are excellent eating. I got a couple of friends that went out for them too. But they are using airguns. I'm hoping to hear how they did too. But even seeing the bobcat is a thrill, right?

Finally got out for Chukar yesterday, was a great day with me and the pup. Unfortunately my batteries took a dump on me after our first time up the hill however, I did manage one photo. We ended up with six for the day, it was tough hunting, the birds did not hold.I plan many more day hunts before the season ends.Attached File  10_25_06_Chukar.jpg   75.08K   89 downloads

Great photo...even your pup looks a little exhausted. In my book, six is a great day of Chukar hunting. As you know...Chukar hunting is the exact opposite of Dove shooting. Great work,David

Thanks, the best part was the birds were exceptionally large. The Chukar populations were excellent, they just were not holding, which made for chasing them from one hill to the next.
