My father in-law has been having some problems with squirrels wreaking havoc on his fruit trees so I offered to go over with my pellet gun for some pest control. I have a decent .22 caliber air gun i could use. I was curious if I could possibly eat these squirrels rather than just killing them. They're common fox squirrels. Those are about the only squirrels I see around here.My in-laws live in the Sunland/Tujunga area which is in the foothill community north of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. It's all single family homes, not like the inner "Downtown LA". Is there a real difference between these squirrels found in the residential areas vs. the ones people hunt and eat in the open country? Is there anything I should watch out for or should I be ok with skinning and cooking them? Thanks!

My first suggestion is to determine when the season is for those things.

First I would recommend you go here:http://www.fgc.ca.go...malregs.asp#307Then read this section §307. Tree Squirrels. If your county is not listed in the regulation then this rule applies.

( d ) Except as provided herein, tree squirrels may not be taken at any time in the balance of the state.

I would be more worried about being able to discharge any sort of gun in that area without first checking with the local authorities.

This is another case of us sitting on our hands when it was up for a vote. We need to get a petition started to over-rule what is on the books. It's not impossible.

Just get a trappers license and trap them as an ADC worker for your father in law.

What kind of squirrels are they? Sometimes ground squirrels will climb way up into trees.

Get a picture of one If they are ground squirrels go for it but if they are any kind of tree squirrel they have a season. And can you shoot a firearm there with out getting into trouble.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I was shooting ground squirrels when I heard one doing it's warning chirp, I looked all around the mounds and saw nothing then something on top of a bush caught my eye it was a ground squirrel warning others about me so I shot him too....lol

Not much left on the ground squirrels that I shot that would be edible :good:

I meant tree squirrels (fox squirrels specifically) taken with an airgun.
