Are bear tags hard to get in CA? We can take 5 blackies a year and don't require tags at all in Alaska. Just have to seal the skull. Most areas require a $25 tag for grizzlies for residents and that's usually one a year. Non residents is a whole different story though. Big bucks.Anyway, congrats and good luck!

Bear tags are not hard to obtain, they can be bought from license agents, or DFG offices. Resident = 32.50, non-resident 206.50

How do you prepare your bear tags? Or do you just make stew out of them like deer tags?

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Now thats what I call a liberal quota on Black Bears, and cheap for Grizz. Man I need to move to Alaska, thats my dream hunt, but the cost is high for the hunting I want to do, Brown and Moose, and some world class Halibut fishing. I hear a guide required if you come in from out of State, is that so?Is Kodiak still the best place for the biggest Brown Bears?

I thought maybe there was a certain BBQ sauce that made them taste better. :o

I don't want to sound dumb but what do you do to seal the skull? What is it and why do you do it? Maybe I'm missing out on some bear hunting terminology here.Jason

Well twain hart is one of the places I plan too hunt. last year I saw a lot of sigh I just haven't been there this year. I was told by a camper not clamper......... lol.. that he sees a few bear up around Eagle Meadows all the time. Why don't both of you get a bear tag and you too can join me on a hunt. One more day of Hillbilly music won't kill me... :P lol. As for the bullet I am going with the same stuff you shoot Matt the ballistic Silvertip 130.I also have a Fawn call coming in this week.

For some reason I've never had the urge to hunt bear. I'm busy this weekend but unless Wes has anything planned for the next weekend maybee we could all get together for a bear/coyote/squirrel hunt. Wes has been bitten by the predator hunting bug and I think my 223 is a little jealous of the attention that my other rifles have been getting from me so I'd better take it out for a spin.

I posted this at 3:56pm today (6 minutes prior) in the other thread about the .22 mag:QUOTE(clampdaddy @ Nov 7 2006, 03:44 PM) "I wouldn't hesitate to whack a yote with my 22 mag, as long as the range wasn't much further than 100 yards. I've been toying with the idea of getting a faster handleing coyote rifle too. The other day I was at one of the local sporting goods stores and they hade a remington model 7 youth rifle in 243. The man behind the counter said that it can be had in 223 as well. I really liked the way the youth rifle felt, like a 22 but capable of some serious coyote floping power. Another option that I've been considering is the browning lever action in 22-250......decisions-decisions."But that would mean we would actually have to GO coyote hunting... (hint, hint)

I did on 1st day (23rd Sept) - posted in another area; am sure some may be tired of seeing this pic - D3-D5 area. 6:45am 1st thing. 500lb'er.....Head and hide at the taxidermist. Meat still being co-processed with some venison and elk into summer sausage, sausage and filets for jerkey.
