Lets just say that the opening weekend for D17 wasn't too eventful for me and my pards. Fri set up camp and it starts raining but lets up after about an hour. Look out of the tent and see 3 guys walking up. What tha. Find out they've been there for two days scouting and haven't seen anything. Funny we've been watching deer for 2mo. out here and see them in the same place every time. Ask where they're camped and wouldn't you know it right where we have seen the deer. I mean they camped right on top of where I've been watching a big 4x5 buck for 2mo. Not happy and one fella asks whats wrong and I proceed to tell him what a D A him and his buddies are and to go back to the city and learn to hunt from people who have some experience. Well they leave none too happy. So what. We have 2 more areas we've been scouting and guess what same thing. What are the odds of having 13 D A city slickers doing the same thing exact same thing showing up 2 days before season to do there scouting. Here's the kicker. When we asked them why they chose this zone they all said because it has the biggest deer in it. Wow no kidding. You know why their big because people like you hunt them and there smarter than you. Looks pretty easy on TV don't it city boy.Needless to say I was pretty wound up after burning 3 days vac. and running into this. Oh well there are 3 more weekends and if I'm lucky like last year it will just have been the opening weekend rush and the deer will go back to their normal patterns and I will get a shot at something decent. By the way I shot at a nice 3x4 in the same area last year and missed never should have but all I have ever hunted was whitetail and that was the biggest deer I had ever seen up to that point body wise. I'll quit yapping now.

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

We decided that next year that we are going to have to wait until the week after or later to do our trip as it just is getting more rediculous year after year. I know its public land and it beats the heck out of paying to hunt prvt. I just gets under my skin when all the hard work I've put in doesn't pay off because some people are under the impression that they just can buy a tag and shoot a deer and not work at it. It will magically appear and bam its down. It works like that on occasion but not with the big boys in the area we hunt. I think like you said wait till later or hunt during the week.

Cant we all just get along. New to the game the big guys will come back :P . And the Peaple on opening day ster up the deer for us hunters  :D Deer and all game are like bass fishing. find the food and shelter. and you will find them if thay leave another one will come in. How manny times have you taken a bass out of a certain spot and a week later there is another bass there. The best part of the deer hunt is spending time with other hunting friends and the camp fire and marshmellows if you got to kill a deer to have a good time you are missing the point of hunting. :D

I had fun and didn't even think about work. It was a good time but disappointing to see 2 mo. of work fly down the tubes. I was ticked at the time but now its no big deal. We ran into a guy and got invited to Wy to hunt his parents ranch for deer and elk next year so it was not a loss in my books. I'm not giving up I want to get one of those big boys out there just to say I got a big deer on public land in Kalifornia.

Then I must be looking in the BABY FOOD SECTION OF THE FOREST  ;) :o

The last day we scouted we saw 12 bucks 3 were forkies the rest were 3x4,4x4 and the biggest was a 4x5 that was very wide. Just talked to someone that does alot of photography oout ther and he said that almost all of the deer have moved up high and they saw sbout 50 head in one spot with several bucks in with them.
