My son Pat and I went out with a friend on the boat this morning (location classified). We hunted from about 7:00am to 12:45pm in the fog. We caught the grind just right and took 22 geese between the three of us. It was, well, magic. Our dog with a nice speckAttached File  1.jpg   33.65K   21 downloadsTried to upload the pic of all the geese but having problems with pic re-sizer. Will try again tomorrow when sober. Sorry

Attached File  1.jpg   28.29K   21 downloadsSorry folks, that took longer than I planned. We hunted Friday, but Saturday morning we had a mishap. On the way out to our spot, Pat wrecked the boat. (No injuries, thank God).We had another duck boat launch just behind us. His boat had large spot lights. As we headed out, the spotlights severely interfered with visibility. I told Pat to let him go past us so we could see. Pat continued. Soon I was yelling at him to stop the boat because the spotlights behind us made every shadow dance, and we flickered from blackness to blinding light. Pat continued until he crashed through 20 feet of tulles and up onto a rock levee. He thought the boat was going to the same location as we were headed, and competition for good spots gets heated. He was caught up in the chase of it all, and could not listen to reason. The other boat turned back and helped free us. We made it back to shore on our own power. It was a quiet ride home.Damage -- two, possibly three hull breeches. My boat mechanic gives the boat a 50-50 chance of being fixed. With a welded boat, fixing the holes is simple enough, but the dents and crushed chine lines may interfere with steering. It may be cost prohibitive to repair. Best case, the boat will be down for several months.Pat has learned some tough life lessons. Thankfully, no one paid a too high a price. We had a spectacular waterfowl season. I did not go out alot, but I think I got about 25 ducks and about 10 geese. Pat went much more often and estimates 150+. The dog had some great retrieves. But as often happens, it ended poorly.

I am also constantly working on survival skills. Hunted as a boy for squirrel, rabbit and some upland birds. I am a farmer by trade and I work for an organic farm founded on ethical work practices.
