Got my first limit of quail the other day (valley quail). Ive been close before but finally got it done, on public land. It was the perfect day-sunny right after a big storm. The birds were everywhere and in 2 hours of hunting and 12 shells I had my 10 birds :smiley_green_with_envy:Attached File  1.jpg   37.83K   17 downloads

Now that is some good shooting. Not many people can get 10 quail out of 12 shots. As a matter of fact not many people get ten quail in one day any more. Keep it up Brother.

Nice shooting will! Congrats on the birds. Did you figure out how you are cooking them?

we made remake (spelling?) out of them. Basically little balls of quail with a piece a water chessnut wrapped in bacon held together with a toothpick and marinated in terriyaki. DELICIOUS and easy to make

Rumaki is great! I've even gotten people to eat liver when wrapped in bacon.

Probably because most people don't have a good spot to find quail would be my guess.

congrats will, but why is everyone saying its hard to get a limit of quail?

Could be many reasons. Maybe they aren't Olympic quality shooters, don't have but a couple hours at a time to hunt due to family responsibilities, too many bird hunters and not enough land where they hunt, etc..... A better question may be: Why can't a person be happy for another without bringing them down?BTW, congrats will, been a while myself. I am a self proclaimed horrible shot, but a huge activist of the self started "Shoot And Release" program. :bleh[1]:

Do you ever hunt Squaw Leap area?

As a matter of fact I do. I know its horrible to post your spots on the forum, but for you guys who dont live near fresno, Squaw Leap is probably the most known spot out there. I actually started my morning at squaw leap and nailed 5 birds right away. I knew the general area that some coveys would be out in (sunny), and moved fast and found a few coveys quick. Then I went over to Sugarloaf (another extremely popular spot) and finished off the limit after walking maybe 200 yards from my car. Now before everyone heads up there right this seccond....the only reason I did so well was because of the perfect weather conditions. Bluebird day right after a big storm-the birds were all out in force!

Because it IS! I hunt really hard for quail, and have some really good spots. One time two years ago I got 9 and that was all day hunting hard as hell (I'm 19 and in good shape). Thats why I posted this, I was so pumped!!

This was an all day hunt. We drove from corona at 3 in the a.m. got to the spot just as the sun cracked. Than hunted all day, but with a chow break and went back at it! my birds are on the left and i shot three boxes to get them. buddies on the right and he should've had a limit but lost i think a few birds. I've hunted that area before, quite a few years since I hunted there. Good shooting, getting a limit with so few shells
