It's a 7400 in .30-06. My uncle bought it about 25 years ago, hunted 2 seasons with it, then it sat in the gun safe for almost 15 years before I bought it from him. It's been a good rifle and I've killed a few bucks with it, but I'm ready to go back to a bolt and try a different caliber (I think a new .257 weatherby mag is in my future). The 7400 needed a new scope this year, but I didn't want to drop too much $ since I knew I would be investing in a new deer rifle soon. I bought one of Cabela's Pine Ridge scopes (4-12x40/$109.99) to mount on there, and I'll say I am quite impressed for the money. Obviously no Leupold, but anybody who might be in the market for a decent cheap scope should check 'em out.Looks like Wes has a Remington Model 742. What Caliber?
No problem, I agree that wasn't one of my best gutting jobs. I actually wanted to hang him to gut him, but I didn't see any good branches to throw a rope over... Oh well, I never claimed to be perfect (but at least I got a deer)!Wess did teach me something what not too do when you gut a deer ...
sorry wess I just had too say something...

I'll be home the next 2 weekends, but the last weekend I'll either be back in D6 with some friends (except I'll be chasing squirrels), or I have a D5 tag that I might have to go solo on... Anybody been seeing anything worthwhile in D5?

That is so true. I've gotten my fair share of small deer in California. The trick is to make sure they let go of mamma's teat before plugging them.Yep, that is a nice one. Mine last year had a spike on one side and a little fork on the other. But you know what, I was eating good while the folks who laughed at me for shooting a little buck didn't get to eat venison. Great job! In Calif, you have to take what you can when you can.

I have the 742 same gun different model number because mines older I got it in the late sixties. It's also a .30-06 and has killed more deer than I can remember. It's still a very accurate gun for a semi auto. I liked it because I loved to shoot the coyotes we would jump during our deer drives. My partners hated me shooting the yotes but when the gun went off it usually jumped the deer too. So being a semi auto really paid off on quick follow up shots. It was hard to beat for thick or even open areas. They used to make ten round clips for them too, but that wouldn't be legal now. It's a 7400 in .30-06. My uncle bought it about 25 years ago, hunted 2 seasons with it, then it sat in the gun safe for almost 15 years before I bought it from him. Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.
My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

Sometimes we like to play some banjo music when we bring a new guy into our little hunting group. There's some thing about being deep in the woods and banjo music that makes em squirm a little.Hay Clampdaddy I can still hear that banjo music you guys were playing sunday in my ears..............make it stop!!................lol..
