With all this bad weather how are you guys doing this duck season? I have never duck hunted but I was under the impression that the nastier the weather the better for ducks and geese. Is that true? If so where are all the pictures of your limits :smiley_turkey_pop_up_log: Good luck out there and be safe!

Wind is better. This much rain opens up much more water for the birds spreading them out.

Yea, the rice fields up around here are all full, which in not normally the case. Lots and lots of places for those water loving birds.

Weather is good, nasty or otherwise, and wind is best. Usually. In my opinion, and in a number of others, this has been a weird year. Some people are doing good, others are not. What's odd is that some people are doing good, and then the next day bad, and then the next...good again.I think that it is because we had an early cold snap which pushed birds down further south too quickly. Now, we are having heavy rains which is causing early flooding. Now that the ducks have literally too many places to hang out, they are finding the safe places, and...hanging out. Lots of birds are flying high, and moving to these safer locations. Just my opinion, and I'm sure it will differ from others'. At this point, we have enough water, and we actually need it to stop raining. Also, some new ducks might be a key ticket to some better shoots depending on location. And the teal are finally showing up, weeks later than normal. I bet the grasslands guys are having a way better experience right about now. I'm having trouble finding a place to shoot because of all the flooding. I'm heading to Eastern Washington again on New Years Eve for almost a week this year to hunt divers on the Columbia River. It's been going good for the boys up there still (it helps that it's one of the first stops from Canada). Lots of Canvasback and Redheads!!! I've still never shot either, maybe this will be my year.

Well naturally i would agree but there is too much water out here. We had a pretty heavy wigeon flight a week ago, Killed five limits one day and seven limits the next, but have not shot a duck since. not enough ducks for as much water is aound here. when it freezes it will get better with only certain water available!

OK so there is some action and by the sounds of it the ducks should be out to play soon. Good luck everyone! I bought my duck this year, I will be making it with cranberries and persimmon for Christmas. One day I will have to chase some water fowl.

It's been a strange season for me. One day it'll sound like a war zone, the next you might only hear a couple shot of in the distance. Almost all my shots have been pass shots. I've only actually taken a couple birds with the landing gear in the deployed position. Alot of birds just flying high and passing by. The robo duck has been duck repellent. The San Joaquin and the Merced river are both really swollen so the birds have alot of options in the grassland area. I've seen more spoonies this year than I've ever seen and the sprig have been darn near impossible to work. We've been thumping alot of gadwal and widgeon this year. Also got my first speck today.

Action has been pretty steady for us guys in Suisun. Tons and tons of spoonies, tons of canvas backs and other assorted divers. Took quite a few geese early on. Pintails almost every time out and widgeon, widgeon, widgeon. Has to be the number one bird shot this year.
