[348 WCF]

Any body ever shoot 2 1/2" shells with a Browning auto 5 chambered for 2 9/16"? This was my Grandfathers gun and I would love to hunt with it but ammo is rare. Any help would be apreciated.348 WCF

Fiocchi was, I'm not sure if they still are, making 2 1/2" & 2 9/16" ammo every couple of years. Probably not listed on their website. Contact direct for more info.

If ammo is not available, you might need to reload for your 16.

Reload them you should be able to cut a 2 3/4 hull down to 2 1/2 or 2 9/16. Be somthing cool and diferent to wack coyotes with.

If you get the tool to put the old style roll crimp on the end of the shell you can get the same 2 3/4 cartridge payload into a shorter 2 9/16 shell. The shorter roll crimped shell will actually have about the same loaded cartridge length as a modern 2 3/4 cartridge. This is because the roll crimp uses an over shot card to hold the shot in the case instead of the extra hull length that is needed to seal the end of a star crimped shell.
