Hi all, totally new here and this is my first thread start so hope this comes out right.A gentlemen I work with who is an avid hunter advised me to only hunt rabbits in the winter and mostly when the snow is on the ground because the majority of the bugs and parasites the rabbits carry die off. He also told me to watch for ring worm in the skin when skinning it. Any more input on this would be great. What do I need to look for and know when attempting to hunt rabbit, ie good times of year, times to avoid. I am in southern california also.

If you look above in this column at the Pinned topics under Rabbit handling warning, it may help with your question. Good Luck.

Here is the link Ornery is talking about.http://www.californi...?showtopic=1638Tularemia, is the only thing that would worry me and it doesn't. If you notice white spots on a rabbits liver then I probably wouldn't eat that one. But they die pretty quickly from it too. As for other parasites they are all killed in the cooking process so as long as you thoroughly cook the meat it will be save to eat.

People are nuts that eat sushi. If God wanted me to eat raw fish He would not of made fire. a rabbit would have to be frozen to kill the stuff on or in it.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
