This isn't cool enough weather to move deer. Besides we know all the legal bucks live in peoples yards. :D

I'm leaving for a D6 daytrip in about 6 hours. I got a D3-5 tag for my secondary, but none of my hunting buddy's got one. Where are you planning on going? I've got a friend that manages a huge ranch up by Copperopolis that I think is D5. He said there's plenty of deer & coyotes up there, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him on whether or not the owner will let me hunt the ranch... On a side note, biggest local buck I ever saw was standing in someone's front yard just outside of Angels Camp. :D

Horrible. Left out a little later than I wanted, but got back in the woods right as the sun was coming up. About an hour later we spotted a healthy doe and two fawns. So I'm thinking "great, this is gonna be a good trip!". Wrong. We spent the rest of the day dodging other hunters and eating dust. Didn't see another deer all day. Hunted from Long Barn all the way over almost to Cherry Lake. Talked to one hunter who had came in early and set up camp on wednesday, he said he had seen 2 mountain lions, 1 of them being "HUGE!". My buddy was hung over from a wedding yesterday, so we called it quits early and I was home before 4pm. One little bit of good info is that we saw tons and tons of grey squirrels, more than I've seen in several years. Hopefully we'll get some rain & snow to get the deer moving and push the mountain lions down out of the area!

about 20 does lost cont ,2 spikes and seen my first non typical buck .Fork on one side and the other side whent strait up with pionts going every where. Was watching some does and there he was in back of them ,just could see his head made eye contack and he was gone. Met two nice state officers one guy was one of the guys that do the herd count :D gave me some infoe on blake tail and mule deer language. :P this guy new his stuff. tried it out later in the day had a doe come in on me like a coyote would :o. Found Peekers father inlaw ,Peeker was still out, said Peeker and his brother inlaw past up three keepers , they get more deer than the rest of us. long story how I met the officers tell you tomarrow going to bed had lots of fun. Foegot if you want to get a buck in california your going to need to get out of your truck get off your quaud or bike and do some hiking unless you have horses.but then you need to get off the horse.

Wounderfull I'm hitting the east Cherry lake area this week for 2 to 3 days. Dad picked the tags this year and since he and I both live in d-6 we got d-6. He likes the east chery area I like the area south and East of the refuge and into the wilderness areas. However Dad is old and I'm fat and out of shape. At least I have a fishing license and gear.Any bears in that area?Next year I swear I'm going for an X or B zoneon a funnier note I was at walmart getting gear and a Guy asked me what type of .22 ammo he needs for his ruger 10/22 to hunt deer with. I'm glad my kids aren't hunting this year.

Going again this weekend. Those that have had good luck in seeing deer, I know you don't want to give up the details of your spot, but could you at least tell us what kind of elevation you are hunting? Are we talking 6000, 7000, 8000 feet? And are you hunting up highway 4, 108, or 140? Friend of mine has been working up at Dardanelle's for the last 4 days, hasn't seen a single deer. Ranger check point at the old truck scales on highway 108 only had 32 deer checked in opening weekend. They said past few years it's always been over 100 deer checked opening weekend... Either this weather has them WAYYYYYYY up high, or I think the poachers have been hitting 'em hard.

we need some snow bad. Most deer i have seen have been around 6k feet but those are all does. I did see my first buck this season tonight. I was coming home from hunting and it was standing in my headlights. Hes lucky i didnt run him over then prop him up against the fence and shoot him.
