A Remington 700. Does not matter what caliber. It is the shot placement that counts. :653:

The .308 Winchester is what I use and have killed all types of North American game from coyotes, pigs, antelope, deer, bear to elk. Most have dropped in their tracks, including all three elk and the bear, only two didn't but I only had to track them a very short distance, one was 20 feet and one was 75 yards but that was only because the bear rolled down the hill. The platform I choose for the .308 is a mid 1980s Springfield Armory M1A. I had to doctor it a bit to make it Kaliforniev legal back 10 years ago but amazingly it didn't change the way the rifle performs. The shortest kill was less than 20 yards, furthest past 600 yards. Two thumbs up for S/A's M1A rifle.

Well, I don't know what the best is but I'm taking my brand new Remy 700 VSF in 308 w/Nikon optics into the fray. That certainly should kill a buck if I get the crosshairs on one.I also have a SA NM M1A which would be adequate although she is a bit heavy to lug around the Yolla Bolleys.

Quapoh, I have to agree that the M1A is heavy. Mine with scope is 10.2 pounds. I'm 6' 04" and 260 so weight has never been an issue for me. And, I can do no wrong with it!

Yep. Mine is even heavier than from the box. I replaced the handguard with a Troy Systems M14 Battle Rail. Heavy NM Brl, rail, scope, mounts, sling, Walnut stock and 10 in the box gotta have mine near 13 or so. I'm 5'9 170 lbs and not very conditioned as I drive a desk for a living. Still I have a good time getting out there when I can. I think the Remy 700 will be a great rifle to take into the woods. 9lbs with every thing on her. I'll shoot her for the 1st time in the morning.

This is the configuration of my S/A M1A. It is from Springfield's custom rifle shop. I bought two from them back in the 1980s, one in .308 and the other in .243. I wish I would have bought the .338 Win when they offered it and I wish I would have kept the .243. It has the heavy American Walnut stock and hand guard, 3rd gen scope mount and Leupold Veri-X II 3 X 9. The only thing I wish is that the length of pull was about an inch or so longer. I tried the rubber butt extension but I hated it. I have the $100.00 Kaliforniev legal muzzle brake/compensator for it and when I hunt with it it's attached. In Colorado hunters are limited to five rounds so I have a few of those. With a loaded magazine it's pushing 13 pounds. I've killed 29 of my 37 deer with it, 18 antelope, a bear and two elk and few coyotes with it. I just can't seem to do any wrong with it. Posted Image

Very sweet! I buddy of mine put one of the aluminum tactical stocks on his and it really looks racy! Another rifle I've hunted with is a Remington 7400 in .270. I've not killed anything with it yet but hey.......BTW, bean bag chairs! Right on!
