Can someone tell me about the "New Marine Issued Modular Sleeping Bag System Patrol"...I saw one for sale for $95. and am wondering is this is the kinda sleeping bag I should be considering for hunting trips.

$95 is a good buy depending on condition. Does it come with the complete system? Should come with the black back the green bag and the bivvy sack.

Supposed to come with black sleeping bag, green sleeping bag, gortex waterproof cover and carry bag.It's an awesome sleeping bag and if it actually has all three bag pieces, it's well worth $95

One black & one green? Does one go inside the other for colder climes and/or used for extra padding (like a mattress) in warmer temps or what?

Black goes inside green and both go inside gortex outer shell.I used to only ever use the green, but make sure you are using the gortex shell, because if it's cold and you are using both black and green, they tend to sweat on the bottom without the gortex.

At what temps you would you use both over green alone?

Depends on how big of a sissy you are.... I've been comfortable in just the lighter one and the gortex shell at 17 deg before

bc9696 did you find that bag on at a Military surplus supply? If so what is the website? Not looking to buy a bag, just looking for sites to shop.Are there any other good surplus websites like what shooter linked? Any one you either personally favor or have used before?I think this is what your looking for. Its the complete package and listed for $149.00. It would appear from this price that if the bag your looking at has the Bivy, your getting a good deal. If you have to purchase the bivy as well it might just be cheaper to buy the complete package below.http://wardenssupply...products_id=469

I found it on craigslist and communicated w/ the seller via email but when i tried to schedule a pick-up, he had just vanished. No replies after confirming I intended to buy it and wanted to pick it up within a day or two. Aww well...that's craigslist for ya.

I have one of those bags from my Army days and if ya use all 3 bags in anything above freezing you'll be sweating. I used to throw the green bag into the gortex cover, leave the black part in the compression sack and use that for a pillow. One of the all around best things to have IMO is a poncho liner it'll keep ya warm and can be stuffed into a cargo pocket, I keep one in my Jeep at all times.

I use the green bag with biv sac in 19 degrees and stayed warm they work excellent

I can tell you from experience, if its in good condition it will serve you well. If the outer bivi sack isn't included don't buy it. If it is included make sure you inspect it for holes before you give up your money.
