Well I've been shooting a Browning Gold for the past 15+ years, it has been Ported and back bored w/forcing cones worked on etc. Been a great gun but thought I needed something new. I ordered a 3" Maxxus back in October w/26" Barrel and black. Couldn't get a 3" so finally bit the bullet and paid the extra for the 3 1/2" which I will never use. (only shoot 2 3/4") I shot the gun for the first time this weekend, I love the gun, it shoots very well. The only problem with the Maxxus is the carrier, when loading the magazine the dam thing pinches your thumb in a major way. I'm going to have to buy some protective tape (like we use in Argentina for high volume dove shoots) to protect my thumb for the rest of the duck season. I called Browning today and they said they have had a lot of complaints about the carrier. I told them whoever was the designer of the carrier should have to go on a high volume shoot then he may understand the problem. Bad design IMHO

I've always read that a tight full choke with steel especially large shot is a no no. Bad patterns and bulging barrels. You may want to check into that a little bit. I use a mod (1/2) or the imp. cyl (1/4) chokes with steel. I tried the imp. mod. (3/4) and it doesn't pattern well in my gun.

OK??? I just was reading the owners manual on a brand new Browning which I have on the cleaning table. The owners manual says and I quote. " full choke is not for use with steel shot" Whatever floats your boat. :signs1180lq:

I use a few different cannons... when I feel like making things difficult for myself I use an 870 20 gauge 28" barrel, when I feel like being classy I have a nice remington 1100 magnum 26" barrel that I take out, and when Im just out on any other regular day bustin through the swamps I use an 870 12 gauge 28" barrel. As far as shotshells and chokes, I use federal black cloud, and remington nitro steel in sizes 2-4 depending on the size of the birds flying over decoys with a trulock black cloud improved cylinder or a trulock modified if they arent coming in close. For pass shooting I use size BB through #2 also depending on the size of the birds flying... Trulock black cloud full choke for #2 and #1 shot and modified for the BB shot. For the 20 gauge I shoot factory modified chokes with either 3" #4 remington nitro-steel or 3" #4 federal premium.

I pretty much solely use my 11-87 with a mod choke, however in this last offseason I bought myself a Briley extended light modified choke to see if I can hit more ducks. Haha.On bluebird days last season I took out my over under a few times.

Factory chokes normally don't have the strength to shoot steel. I have several aftermarket full and ext full that are intended for steel shot. I have a nova and have put hundreds of rounds through it with full and ext full chokes. NO issues what so ever. However my factory full choke states "no steel". I think this is really a mater of material the choke is made of, not the barrel. Most of the pressure is at the bolt and barrel joint, no the end of the barrel. Provided you don't try and shoot a slug or a homemade load out of your gun the steel shot full chokes are tested and proofed. Many choke man. have full steel shot chokes. Even Carlson. Hope this helps with the myths out there.

All of my stock Rem chokes are fine with steel (three Remington shotguns), it may be what Benelli puts out that's not OK (stock chokes). I also bought a factory super full extended choke that says "OK to use for lead or steel" right on the choke.

I think that after christmas I'm going to buy a plain black 3.5 inch BPS Stalker that I can mistreat with a clear conscience and throw on a fresh coat of krylon when it gets looking really shabby. After being spoiled by my Maxus I just hope my shoulder can still take the pounding that a pump dishes out. :smiley_kewlpics:

My 870's full choke has the same "not for steel" warning that my Nova has. Maybe its a matter of bang for buck. What type of Rem are you shooting?
