Well I made the mistake of going to my favorite family-owned gun store yesterday and was tempted by what must be a good deal on a new Ruger SB SS. I bought some 6 guns from them last year so they offered me one of them for $500 - Happy New Year. He normally sells it for $525. I shot a buddies blued SB in 44 Mag maybe 10 yrs ago. Are there any issues with this gun? What do you think about it? Can you change out the rear adjustable sight for a Weaver mount? I would like to put another Holosight on it.TIA

I have a Super Blackhawk 44mag 5 1/2" stainless. They're great guns. They're also built like tanks!

That's my question.... Some are telling me they like the SA on the Redhawk SA/DA better than the Super Blackhawk SA. Something about the hammer drop being too far on the SB. Is the Redhawk as strong of a gun? Is it a better choice? What are the advantages/disadvantages over the SB.Thanks

Owned both. Sold my SB after I got my RH and later a SRH. Both are super tuff pistols and work well. "I" prefer the RH because I wanted a swig out cylinder and to be able to use speed-loaders. I shot the heck out of the BH and the RH and never a problem. Get the one you like and do not worry.

Thanks for the input. I really don't need a speedloader for shooting at whitetail. The guns appear well built..... I found a b-square mount for putting on a Holosight. I don't need double action and the $200 or so extra for a RH will go towards the $300 Holosight.

I have the same gun and I really like it. The best mod was adding Hogue grips to it.

Honestly, I don't know what brand it is. I had it installed many years ago. I don't think there is anything written on it.

I don't THINK there's any difference in "toughness" between the RH and SB. The swing out cylinder was also a plus for me. I agree 150% about the Hogue grip upgrade! I haven't shot the the SRH in a LONG time so I don't remember how the SA trigger felt compared to the SB.

Looks like a Leupold, which has the dual dovetail rings.

Finally had a chance to check, and it is a Leupold scope mount.

The only advantage the Red Hawk has is that it uses a longer cylinder. Heavy bullets can be loaded further out which make more room for powder. It aint got half the style of the Black Hawk though.

Now I am saving for a scope for this beast. I am leaning towards the Leupold VX-3 2-8x Silver since I will shoot it on a range sometimes. Any experience with this scope? Any other suggestions?http://www.leupold.c...8x32mm-handgun/

I looked at that when I was in Bass Pro a couple months ago. Very nice scope and easy to see through even at 8x with very little "shadowing". There was a Nikon but I don't remember the model that I liked a lot too.

Yes - I am considering the Nikon as well. Based on the scope reviews I posted about a year ago the optics on the Nikons tended to be better than Leupold's. I'll have to look though both....Model 8482Nikon Encore2.5-8x28 EER, UCC,BDC Reticle, Satin Silver$299.95

So I finally just received the Nikon 8482 Encore silver scope dual dovetail rings and dovetail mount for the Super Blackhawk. It appears that the gun must be drilled and tapped for the mounts front two holes. Is that correct?

Looks like it is a DIY. My machinist friend said he would do it in about 30 minutes if I let him shoot it. You use the base as the guide to drill the holes (all of the way through the bar) and then remove it to tap them.
