Patrick and I, along with Patrick's friend Frank, went out on the boat today for ducks. I wasn't expecting much, with blue skies and no wind. (Yesterday morning we got an Aluetian five minutes into the shooting time, but nothing after that).Patrick and Frank shot at a pair of woodies screaming in on afterburners, and dropped them both behind us in thick brush. I didn't have a good shot. The dog got one easily, the other was very far into the brush, and he took about five to ten minutes to find that one.A flight of six mallards came by, and Patrick and Frank worked them pretty good. They made two long circular passes, and then came in low from behind us. Patrick doubled two drakes, and Fred dropped a hen. I missed.THE HEN WAS BANDED!!Later, I got a ruddy duck. Oh well. This was the best weekend of the season for us yet.Attached File  1.jpg   24.12K   33 downloads

Most waterfowl hunters collect the bands.. Its like scoring a BIG buck... Ive heard of fist fights breaking out over who gets the band when its questionable as to who shot it LOL..

I still haven't gotten a band, and my buddies who have been hunting longer than me, have only gotten one a piece.Great job, Timmy and crew! This weekend was terrible, but out last weekend at Delevan went great, almost got limits for 3 of us.I'm not hunting until the beginning of December now.

Aren't there some bands that are worth $$??

Some bands are worth money up to $100 bucks, I think; they are different colors with the colors representing the value, I think.

Well, the reward is the band itself. They band birds for migratory research. You report when and where you took the bird, and in return they send you information about when and where the bird was banded.Again, this was not OUR bird. My son's friend shot it. However, the very next week in the same spot, my son shot a banded wood duck (drake). However, he was so excited about stuffing the bird, he prepped and froze it before we could get the band checked. Now it will be sometime after New Years at least before we find out anything about his bird.I'm still waiting for mine......
