Thats a nice looking bird. Congratulations. What does a bird that large weight? I'm guessing 15 pounds?

Yup just a hair over 15. Don't know if this is ave. or not. Both weighed about the same. Used my bathroom scale so maybe give or take some. thanks for the congrats. got a new boat this year so hopping to spend more time on the water and less time doing repairs.

Judging from the resonses, I assume it's not a bird. I suppose it is shorthand for someone to lazy to type out the entire word?

Braz Duck hunters spend so much time in the water they start to quack up. Thier nuts. Standing in the cold ,dark, in neck deep water just to shoot some greesy bird. :smiley_kewlpics: Just messing with ya . Its tons of fun.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Its even more fun if you forget your waders, and have an island blind (speaking from experience)

I went out last week and took a couple of blue bills, a goldeneye, and to my surprise a nice pintail. Glad that they opened them up this year. Looks like it could be a very good season this year on the open water out in Suisun. The blue bills decoyed in great, as well as the goldeneye. I started seeing handfuls of pintail checking out the decoys so i swapped over to a ext full choke and the next single that passed by close enough to ensure a kill i took aim and fired. Pretty good day all in all. It was last monday. The weather was spotty but it kept the ducks flying a little latter.Attached File  1.jpg   24.2K   11 downloads

Dead divers! Nice! Nothing decoys better than divers! I bet those Goldeneyes were a fun day. I've been hunting out in the Napa marshes near your area, it's been interesting.

I love the way a diver decoys. They are so determined. Some guys don't like to shoot divers. Don't get me wrong the puddle ducks are a lot less work on the backside, but i have gotten good at the prep before cooking for the divers. My kids eat them when i cook them just like a mallard or goose. I live by big water so divers are a way of life for me. I think they are just as important as the "good" ducks as far as waterfowl are concerned. I still get up at 4 am set out decoys, blind my boat and wait just like every hunter. Thanks for not knocking it. No pic today but 6 hunters got 19 ducks in 4 hours. Not to bad for public land. :smiley_kewlpics:

Ever since last year when I hunted divers on the Colombia River in Eastern Washington for the first time...I've been hooked on divers. I will go out of my way to hunt divers if they are there. As you said, don't get me wrong, I like to hunt puddlers, but there's something about the stinky ducks decoying that make me smile. Oh, you're on this forum, I'm not going to give you hell for it, this isn't the Refuge forums.

Jeff, since I'm not a duck hunter, I have to admit that I just don't understand much you are saying. What is a diver? What is a puddler? What the hell are stinky ducks? And what would you be giving him hell about? Sorry, for a non duck hunter this is just gibberish. :yahoo:

Haha Lynn, you crack me up. It's always the duck talk that gets you! There are different "types" of ducks. Divers are ones that tend to dive under water for the food, i.e. eat fish and other underwater organisms (also why they are called "stinky" ducks. Ducks that eat fish tend to taste "fishier"). Some typical examples in the area include Bufflehead, Scaup, Goldeneye, and Mergansers.Puddlers/puddle ducks (more commonly known as dabbling ducks) are ducks that bob on the surface to feed, and eat more vegatation and crops rather than submerge themselves. These ducks also are the ducks that you'd see typically on land (more than others). Like Mallards, Spoonies, Pintails, Wood Ducks.I talked about giving him hell because he thanked me for NOT doing so. Most duck hunters think that the "stinky" ducks aren't worth shooting. People pass on them, and they hold things like Mallards and Pintail in higher regards. Me, I think the divers are prettier and they decoy better.

Nice cans. They seem to be the only diver that every duck hunter hopes to shoot. With any luck the taxidermy man should be calling me any time now to come pick up a huge Can that I dumped last year.

Why not just say reservation? I just don't understand why people slander the language so badly. No offense intended.

Duck hunters just have a different language than the rest of the english speaking population. We have knicknames for everything. A Greater Northern Shoveler is known as a "Spoonie" or a "Boot Lip", a mallard drake is a "green head", a snow goose is often called a "Sky Carp",....................................and so on, and so on.
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

Went out last Sunday and busted up about a half dozen teal and a couple full limits of goden eyes and blue bills. Sry to have to put another season in the books here in a couple of days. Suisun has been a productive area this year, already planning next years spots. I will post closing day pics after the hunt on Sunday. Good luck and i hope you all see lots of ducks.

So, as promised here are the pics from the last day of the season. Managed two limits of a mixed bag of goldeneyes and bluebills. Hunted a total of 55 mins and had birds pouring into the decoys as we cleaned up. Oh well until next year. Guess now its time to hunt for another sturgeon.
