A WARNING since cottontail season opens July 1. Plus we have had a number of jack rabbit posts as of late.Handling rabbits of any species can expose you to Tularemia a disease caused by bacteria. I don't want to alarm anyone but precautions should be taken to prevent infection. Rubber gloves should be worn while processing or handling any small game but especially rabbits. I have included a link for you to look over for your own safety. Tularemia was actually developed as a biological warfare agent.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TularemiaI have some knowledge of this disease as a friend contracted it many years ago. He became very ill and the treatment took an extended period of time. Be safe!
