Let's make a Wister thread to share any thoughts or ideas you have about the place and it's surroundings. Here's somethings that I know about the place that I will share; You can have 4 adult hunters per blind or 4 adult hunters plus 2 junior hunters.Blinds with water on both sides usually do better than with only one side that is ponded. You can usually get on through the sweat line there, lot's of blinds.Ressie help a lot.Remember to bring your Deet.Let's the birds work down to about 40 yrds or closer instead of trying to sky bust them when they are 70 or more yards up.

My hunting party and myself are heading back out there tomorrow. We got a ressie and plan on getting some mallards & more pintails. The forecast is for some windy weather. Oh yeah!

The restaurants in Niland close early or aren't open at all so plan ahead. Or you will be traveling to Calipatria to eat possibly. The Chinese food at the donut shop there is good but is only served at certain times and days.

Wednesday 10-28 duck hunt; Our hunting party had a nice morning shoot, we knock out 8 ducks and might have gotten a goose if my gun didn't jam. We had everything set up just right and had ducks landing in our dekes just a little before shoot time. Our afternoon blind wasn't great at all. We had more tullies than water, so not much shooting was happening. We managed to get two more pintails for a total of 10 ducks. We did get our first mallard of the season in the morning.Well I got lucky and did get another low number ressie for next Wednesday and may have an open spot in the blind for somebody if they would like to join us.

Nice work on the mallard and sprig.I hunted yesterday at SJ and it was great for about 5 minutes, then dead. And I mean really dead.I would usually take you up on that card next Wednesday, but this thing called work kinda gets in the way.....If you need a blind partner later in the year (especially on a Saturday), I'm really good at carrying decoys. :welcomeani:

hunted in the E's with a pretty good card.the birds were thick 5 minutes before shoot time. fly-bys, landing in the pond, etc. it was a sight to see.but... shoot time hit and they all left... i missed 2 easy birds and didn't get another good chance.

I hunted there Wednesday, too. My buddy and sweatlined it, and we were the second card that got pulled. I forgot my waders and murphy's law we were got the island blind in B marsh. The water really wasn't that cold. :smiley-funny-post-sign: We left with no ducks...We did limit on snipe though. For the morning we maybe saw a total of 20-25 ducks fly by, but they were too high to shoot at.

Just be lucky you didn't get the blind that is all the all in the water in the B pond. But dang you got lucky as hell getting pulled out of the bucket second. Most of the time we are just lucky enough to either get the X blind or somewhere in the Walkers.

We did get the blind all the way in the water... It was recommended to us by Tom. We were too excited to realize where it was. I had to roll up my pants and take off my boots and tread through the water bare foot. Luckily I had some towels to dry off right away. I did slip and eat it so I was soaked and the wind wasn't helping out. Hey for duck hunting, anything.

Don't let the lack of birds stop you from going hunting. Looks like one of my hunting buddies finally got a ressie for Wister this Wednesday and I got one for Sunday. So I plan on being down there all week. Lot's of room for activities down there.

But anyway, my bro & I are at Wister just about every weekend. Yes it takes some money to go out there every weekend but not all that much. We've learned to cut a lot of expenses to the bear minium. Such as not buying bottled water and just filling up a 5 gallon igloo from the water store. No need to go out for every meal, we can boil water for soups and warm up can goods for dinner also eat samwiches for lunch. The main expense is diesel to & from Colton down to Wister. We usually have room for one or two more hunters in the truck. So what I am getting at is that if you would like to join us on a weekend hunt down to Wister and ride along just send me a PM with a phone number and we can talk.

Yep, the ducks were just not down there that weekend that we went on. That following Wednesday they killed them big time. And Saturday was pretty good. Sunday probably would have been better if more hunters would have stayed to hunt.

I have parties to attend (girlfriend's birthday) both nights this weekend, so I won't make it down to Wister. I'm going to try to hit SJ for a quickie off the sweatline.
