I've been kicking around building myself a left handed 25 WSSM the last few days. I have never done such a project so I wanted to ask what you guys woulld recommend. I am acustomed to carrying heavy rifles so weight isn't a huge issue. The only requirement is that it be a left handed action. What do you think?

Whatever floats your boat cartridge wise. Start with a good left handed action and you can Pac-Nor put a barrel on it for you whatever length and twist you want. Then drop it in the stock and maybe glass bed it and free float the barrel depending on how close the barrel is or was to the original. It's pretty straight forward.

Either a Savage or Remington. Savage Shooters has Savage actions I believe and the barrels are held on with a barrel nut which you can remove and replace yourself. The Remington probably can be customized some more but the barrels aren't as easy to replace yourself. Not that you will be swapping them out left and right. As you know I like the AccuTrigger on the Savage. But the Remington has a user adjustable trigger and mine have been good to me. But you can easily get barrels for either of those actions from Pac-Nor and even have them install the barrel to the action and head space it for cheap. Going that route you can build the gun for relatively little money. Much cheaper than a gunsmith built gun.

The only savage Shooters I could find was a forum and the shop associated with them didnt sell the actions. know what the website is?Thanks, Steve. I may pick one of those up to build a 20 Practical after I hear how much John likes his. But in the mean time I am going to get something else for this project.

Heath You need to checkout the boltface requirements on the 25wssm. I believe it takes the magnum not the 308 boltface. I know my 243wssm cost me an extra bolt that I wasn't planning on.

If your thinking of the future though you can pre order the mini action now with zero down and still pay the $350 asking fee.

Did you get on the list with nothing down? Not saying you're wrong, it just seems like they would want some $.

I heard back from Montana Rifleman today and was told they do not make an action suitable for building a 25 WSSM.

Yea, but there is no huge hurry. I will start looking for a Savage or Remington action.

The opposite of a right handed 25 WSSM. I know bad pun, but I've been dieing to say that since the post started. I'll keep an eye open for a left handed magnum receiver for you.

You don't have to wait a year to get a Rem. or a Savage either. Sorry Steve but you left yourself wide open. I can see it all now, the ongoing "Saga of Mr. Mr. and the Lost Action." Sounds like a Dirk Pitt novel.

Been in contact with the guys over at Montana Rifles, I'm waiting to see if they'll offer the mini action as a barreled action. If the estimate seems fair, I'll put my order in. Feb. 2007 doesn't sound bad. I waited almost a year for my EABCO M97D.... I can wait 8 months :lol:Then there is a 12 week back log on Volquartsen rifles.... I still blame Mark that I can't get the 17HMR out of my system. I think I'll take the plunge and get my name on that list too.

Who said anything about lower stds. or lower class? All I said was you'll be waiting for a long time and a Rem. or Savage action is available now!

Heath, they'll do it (barreled action)... No cash up front.$390 for the barrel specification that I want. $350 for the Mini action.My order is submitted and when production begins is when they will request for a $350 down payment. Less than $750 for a custom barreled action is not bad. Dress it up with a nice stock. One I'm considering is $550 for the stock and full inletting/bedding. So that's about $1250 for a nice "custom" rifle.

Actually, I did it online as I'm in a quiet room with others here at work. I submitted via online order form, then emailed back and forth regarding details.... Heath, I would submit an online order. Then call for final details if your able to.....

The easiest method would be to buy a lefthanded Savage in 270WSM, 7mmWSM or 300WSM and just do a barrel swap. I'm sure Fred at Sharpshooter Supply or Pacnor will make you a prechambered 25WSSM barrel for it.Remember that Savage has a larger barrel shank on the WSM cartridges which makes the action a different thread size than the non-WSM rifles. The WSM rifles will already have the large bolthead and magazine built for the fat cartridges.
