Are Jack Rabbits edible(taste good)?I've seen many dead jacks in this forum. Are they left to lay once the picture is taken or are they taken home to be cooked?

Switch eats the young ones and swears by it. I think he did mention the full grown adults aren't worth the effort. The adults are left to feed the coyotes!

I'm going on a few camping trips in the next couple of months. I'm going to see if I can get some jacks. I was planning on just leaving them, but didn't want to leave them there when they could be on the Q.

Hopefully Switch will see this thread and can tell you how he cooks them. As I recall, he has a marinade he uses before cooking that he likes really well.

I tried them after SWTICH told about them. They were really good. My wife even liked it. And NO it didn't tatse like chicken, it tasted more like steak. I'm hooked on eating them, but I'll leave the big ones for the Yotes.

I you sure about that boys? I heard that ground squirrels and Jack Rabits are full of worms. In that case what about Bob Cats? Badgers? Coyote's?

Jacks are ok to eat just like any thing other animal. big ones are kinda tuff the young ones are good. a buddy of mine makes chillie with the big ones. I have a pack of yotes and a couple of pairs of red foxes that I leave them too. I will eat a young one some times. the same stuff in a jack as in a deer ect. I eat them fried like chicken or BBQ. Thats why I try to make head shots just in case I take one home.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I particularly like to brown them well and then put them in the crock pot with vegies and some red wine. Let me cook and they are great!

Sorry guys, just now seeing this. IN the early spring, when the younger jacks are out, they taste great. I crock-pot them or bbq them. Very tasty. The older ones are tough and don't taste as good.

Agree on using the younger ones and not the older ones. Just too tough and too strong a flavor.

There is Army Corp of Engineers property surrounding the Reservoir. I tried it during quail season and didn't see a thing. db

Everything is edible if you're hungry enough. But as people have stated the young ones are probably the best and most tender. As for the worm and parasite question, "This ain't sushi!" So cook any wild game throughly. Maybe we can get Coyoteslayer to try some since he won't eat carp! :P
