Just wondering if you guys were able to buy your Bobcat tags over the counter this year? And if so where? Not counting DFG offices. After last years total debacle the DFG created when getting tags (having to mail in your actual hunting license) I had planned on buying my licence and tags online at once...but I was told by the DFG that this year you would be able to purchase your tags over counter at places like Big 5...so I bought my license like usual and so far I've batted a big zero trying to get tags from any of the Big 5's I've been in...nobody even knows what I'm talking about. In all the years they have required tags for bobcats I'd always just photocopy my license and mail it in with a check, never a problem...until last year. Last year for whatever reason they decided to really complicate things and required you to be without your hunting license for a couple weeks...or more sometimes. I guess they saw what a debacle they created so they decided to make it more convenient to purchase the tags...only the places that are supposed to carry them don't know nothing about it. I've been in three separate Big 5's and got blank stares in all when I asked about bobcat tags.

Bought mine at my local gun shop (2nd Amendment Sports). It's where I usually get all my tags.

That is unbelievable... yet so typical of Nazifornia... Sorry to hear that, tawnoper Anyway, I am pretty sure you still have to buy them from a dfg office. I have one close to me so is never a problem just going in person to get them. Doesn't help you out though.Another idea "might" be, if there is a town with a dfg office in it that you are driving by on the way to a hunting location, you could stop in & buy one there. Of course may be tough in the middle of the night. This state just pisses me off more and more. Like Moe says, the '60's were so much easier. So True! We used to not even need a tag for bobcat or mtn lions back then. Now you need a tag for one that is almost impossible to get and can't even hunt the other animal (legally) any more.I will wager (a small donut) that within the next few years we will need tags for coyote & fox. Once the 3rd Reich realizes how popular coyote hunting is now & thus their value as a "cash crop" has become.I gotta go take a blood pressure pill now.... thanks, tawnoper lolFrank

Yep, you can buy them over the counter again. But the prices have gone up on all tags.

No luck on the tags. I hit two Big 5's...at both places, each of the counter people looked at me like I wasn't wearing pants when I asked. They hadn't heard anything about the over-the-counter deal...figures. Ed, I'm headed down south this next week...let's talk.

I agree with you on the coyote tag thing Frank. Just look at What a pig tag costs now and what it used to be. Predator hunting has become extremeley popular, and I dont think it will be long before the state tries to take advantage of it. I don't think they will make you purchase tags but I bet they will start makin us buy a predator license or stamp of some sort. Somethin along the lines of an upland bird stamp. But I guess only time will tell.

AND that's another one, Crittr... we used not have to buy tags for pig either. Forgot about that one. Yep, a coyote stamp probably makes more sense(for them). The crooks are already drooling. argh!

Figures...I guess it's to be expected. ..considering the source. I drove out to the valley yesterday, stopped by one more Big 5...same blank stare. Then I stopped by Turners, thought they may have at least an answer...no dice, they had no idea what I was talking about either. Oh well.

Jackson Walmart didnt have them either.. They never even heard of them >:signgreatreport3kg: Father in law and son are heading up the hill for the opener.. Spotted a nice 3x4 so they are going after it... He will be running to Sac wednesday to get turn in the application and pick up tags. Anyone know If I can just send my license with them to get my bobcat tags? Or do I have to go to? Seems like it would be like mailing it in right?

I think I'd call the DFG office. That would be the easy way. That way, if they need something else, your hubby could take it.

Here's the latest. Only 20 stores statewide apparently got the bobcat tags for over-the-counter sale. She couldn't tell me why only 20. She also told me she was pretty sure that none of those stores were in southern California. If you have a buddy heading to one of the DFG offices to buy his/her tags, that person can pick up your bobcat tags as well as long as they have your original hunting license with them. No copy, no fax, it has to be the original or it won't happen.

Rae, I did ask her. After about 5-minutes of thumbing through some papers she told me she was sure it was Big 5, but she couldn't give me any other store names so I gave up. I'll be down in SD tomorrow and hopefully I can grab a book of tags.

I live by a dfg office in SoCal but has anyone had success trying to buy bobcat tags at the Los Alamitos offies this early before the season? I don't want to drive down there tomorrow for no reason and I feel if I call I'll get some sort of runaround from the typical I don't give a f*** attitude of some of the employees there. Also I believe this office is close most Fridays due tot he CA employee work furloughs so I kind of want to go in there tomorrow maybe.

I purchased my Bobcat and Bear tags at the local DFG office here in Rancho Cordova last Thursday. No issues at all. busy place though. With Bobcat season starting so late maybe you can mail in your deer license after you kill that big buck? not sticking up for the BS rules just wishing you success and a solution!

Wow, you guys waited a long time. I picked mine up at my local gun shop the day I bought my hunting license for the year (around July 1st).You guys should try calling around to all the places that sell tags near you. They are supposed to be over-the-counter this year.
