Hi,i was wondering if anyone has taken a coyote with a rem. 25-06 100gr. before. The reason i ask is that i use this rifle as a deer gun but would love to hunt yotes with it in the off season but do not want to wipe out the entire side of the poor thing. any help.....ALSO. is there anyone that hunts around lytle creek, azusa canyon, green valley lake area on here? deer or coyote.

We recorded several kills on our DVD in Nevada with a 25-06. When hit in the correct spot it does minimal damage.

A few guys use 25-06s for coyotes, great long range caliber. I don't think I'd like using one on fox or bobcats, but I would if that's all I had. If you hit bone you may find a huge hole but that goes for most calibers. I think I'd expand your hunting range a little, some good areas on the other side of the mountains but you'd better read the regs. I use to fish up at Green Valley lake, the road gets closed in the winter sometimes, the fishing can be good. Lytle creek and Azusa canyon is all gang banger country, they need to open a season on them. Good luck with your 25-06.

Like most calibers...how you hit them is one of the most important things to whether or not you blow one up. Like Danny said, they are a bit rough on cats...and they'd probably do a number on a little fox.My buddy used to always shoot a 25-06...sometimes it would just poke a hole, other times it would rain fur.

sorry if my post about the bangers hit a bone with anyone or if someone does not like that coment. I just have no respect for people who feel that the only use of a firearm is to use it on others who. I grew up old school. i say you want a fight lets go out back and have a go at it then when we are done we will shake hands and have a beer together. I think these kids need a good swift kick in the butt.

I bought a 25-06 last winter. I haven't had an extensive amount of experience with it yet on coyotes, only one taken with it. At around 175 yards, and it made a pretty ugly exit wound. It is much, much more explosive on rock chucks and ground squirrels, feral cats, badgers, and other small pests than the .223 I usually shoot. I'm not into hunting for fur, so the only advantage for me with the 25-06 is the added range. I'm shooting 85 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips at around 3400 fps. I'll say one thing for it, the splatter effect on a rockchuck is phenomenal with a 25-06... :signs653wf:

As far as your gang banger comment. I don't like'em either. no offence taken. When it comes to a one shot coyote killing machine. you can't go wrong with a .22-250. or a .25-06. That .25-06 might not leave anough left to skin though.

Now this is my kind of post. Its the only gun one needs for Califonia.....As long as its a Savage. I shot rats , rabbits and yotes and deer and even a kitty cat [tabby]. Great if you have only one rifle . well you need a 12 gauge too. Get the right bullit . It can reach way out there, flat shooter. I load the 75 grn v max for ground squirels and rabbits. And the 100 grn spbt for the yotes and deer. Vmax set 4" high at 100 yrds and the sp at 2" high at 100 yards. . Both loads are hot loads right now.The pick of the jacklook down the row my truck is down there. 375 yard shot.
