Went out scouting on monday for new place to hunt bobcats and coyotes and ran into 3 rattlesnakes wich were all taken care of with 357 mag snake shot. I have never seen that many rattle snakes in one day pretty creepy and will be investing some money in snake chaps. has anybody seen this many snakes in one day. Badcoyote!

Rattlers are out in force now. I got one myself last time I was out. The skin is just about tanned now, should make a nice hatband.

Rattlesnakes head back to their dens when the weather starts cooling off so you'd expect to find them in numbers.A lot of years ago we used to hunt on a piece of private property near Hemet. We killed a bunch of bobcats and a few coyotes on that property but one Saturday we drove in to shoot ground squirrels. When we got into the canyon on the backside of the property there was a guy with a 22 turning over boulders. When we asked him what he was doing he said the owner told him that a couple of guys killed a lot of bobcats back there so he was turning over the boulders looking for a bobcat. lol I'm not joking. We went to a meadow all the way on the back of the property and after a bit we heard a bunch of shooting and screaming. My partner and I looked at each other and wondered if he'd actually found a bobcat. We shot up our ammo and headed out a couple of hours later. When we got to the spot where the guy was he was gone but there were rattlesnakes hung from the low branches of all the trees. Near 100 of them. Seems he turned over the wrong boulder and found a rattlesnake den. LMAO! I continued to hunt that property for a couple of years and every time we went in there the skeletons of those snakes were still hanging from the tree limbs. We'd seen a few rattlers back there but usually just one or two at any given time. That guy hit the jackpot.

No. I'm not sure I'd go back either. Snakes give me the heebee jeebee's. I hate rattlesnakes. Must be a common thing around here, as I chukar hunt with some guys that are even worse. They won't go until there is snow on the ground, so they are positive the snakes are all gone.

Up until the mid-late 80's, this was an average weekend for the family in Mojave. We used to say that they raised snakes in Mojave and then shipped them to the rest of the state. If you took one from under a rock or water tank, they would be replaced by another one sometimes overnight.Posted Image

Finding a den of rattlers would be a kick, but I bet it surprises the hell out of that guy!

Just curious ... was the spot where you saw the rattlesnakes close to one of the burn areas?

Nobody has a greater fear of snakes than I...was bitten by a diamondhead near Needles at age 13. That's why i bought this tent...put it on the truck for practice today. Not too bad but not as nice looking as on their website.

Growing up in New Mexico, Rattlers were an every day occurence while Quail & Dove Hunting. The real fun was the drive home, because the rattlers would crawl out on the highway to stay warm after the sun went down & the temps dropped. Lee

They are thick right now. Started noticeing them real bad a couple of days before the storm. I have been stomping the dry grass out of the foot hills deer hunting. Almost got bit walking out thursday night. It was my fault I tried to walk right over him in the dark. Killed him with my shooting sticks. Third one in two weeks.
