Thanks and no that wouldn't be me i've been on the receiving end of that enough times to be sympathetic  i had it built primarily for 1000 yard shooting so it gets used in the open desert, i'm not a big fan of brakes but even at 18 lbs it needs one

Your brake looks like a JP Howitzer. Brakes make a big difference but are not range buddy friendly. We have shooting tubes at the range. That way the shooter gets it back not everyone else.

Yes that's a nice rifle. The bench is what I'm interested in. Who,What,Where,Why,How. Back to the rifle. You say that's 16lbs and it still needa a brake? I had a 300RUM that weight 8lbs with a Vias Muzzel brake and a after market Hough stock with a special recoil pad.Recoil wasn't bad at all.

Well i should have said i wanted the brake rather than it needing one, with a brake and a flight time of 1.2 seconds to 1000 it allows me to spot my own hits or i should say misses, after shooting my .204i really grew to enjoy seeing my own hits The bench is home grown i built it to be light and easy to set upit breaks down into four pieces and sets up in about fifteen secondsthe front legs are adjustable for uneven terrain, it cost me about $50 to build and it took about two hours not including the camo, it's amazingly sturdyHere is another angle for yaPosted Image

So far it has killed saber fanged, ground squirrels but I'm planning on a trip to Africa in 2008.

After seeing posts on that .30/378 and .50 Beuwolf I am curious to see what the largest big game round/caliber everyone has. For me it's my 300 Win Mag followed by 30-06 and 30-40 Krag.

My largest is a .300 H&H. I prefer a .308Win or even a .243 for California hunting.

Unless you are aiming for the big 5, you really do not need that cannon. I have a Weatherby 375H&H but was never recommended by my African guide for plains game when I booked, instead I packed my Browning 22-250 and Weatherby 300. The second time I went, I just packed my trusty old Remington 30-06 and Mathews Legacy Compound Bow. The 22-250 is just perfect for smaller plains game such as Springbok kind and smaller, the 300 is for the Kudo, Oryx and similar sizes. My taxidermist in San Leandro shot a giraffe with a 22-250 to be mounted full size for his show room. When I was with him, he shot a Burchell Zebra with a 22-250. I think the caliber was undersize. He lost the wounded zebra, found it skin and bones a few days later.

Actually the 375 H&H was bought because I've always wanted one. I'm glad I bought it since it was made in the last run of left handed 375's made. Now that the Winchester M70 plant is closed down I wonder if the new manufacturer will make anymore lefties at all. When I go to Africa the 375 and probably my 7 Mag will go because if you're going to Africa you have to bring the classic African caliber along.Speaking of big bores, here's a real big bore with a loaded 375 H&H round and an empty 50 BMG case for comparison. It's a 4-bore case. Posted Image

That 4 bore case was made for Butch Searcy (Searcy Rifle Co) up in Boron, CA for a single shot rifle he made for a client who wanted to hunt elephant with it. The gun came out weighing over 25 Lbs and shot a 2,000 grain bullet at 2,000 fps. I don't know if the client ever used it.I do know that you couldn't pay me to shoot it to regulate the sights!

I wouldn't shoot it, but I'd sure run a video camera while Soreloser did! Do you have a rifle to go with it or just the casing?

I wouldn't shoot it. You won't even get me to shoot a .500 wrist breaker, I mean revolver.. As far as regulating the sights, I don't think you'll need to with that round. I'm pretty sure you just need to be in the proximity of the animal. Artillery comes to mind.

Hey no doubt that's a big round! But its yesterdays tech. 2,000 gr bullet at 2,000 FPS. Think about what a modern day 30MM shoots. Your talking a cartrige that shoots a mile with hardly any effort. OK yes its a military rnd and there tank busters. Oh and no rifle can be made to fire it by a human I'm just comparing rnd to rnd.Oh ya if that's the case why stop at 30MM.

Ironworker Where you been man? Long time no hear from. My son-in-law used to talk about the Mark-19 I believe it was a fully auto 40mm self propelled grenade launcher. It took two guys to haul it, weighed 87# plus an ammo bitch (the biggest strongest pvt. they had) to bring along enough ammo. He said the thing would demolish a city block in a very short time a mile + away.
