When did they start putting forward assists on AR's? I've got an old Colt upper in Missouri that doesnt have one and I an curious about its age.

I've got some that were up to the mid 80's and they didn't have them either.

Hmmmm.. then there may be no easy way to tell. I think the upper came on the lower from the factory, so perhaps I could date it that way through the serial #

You can just go to Colt and check the serial number to tell you it's age. I thought you just wanted to know when forward assists came out.
