Rabies doesn't survive outside the body very well. The neurological damage evidence is very diagnostic for rabies and is focused in the brain. In my case, they would never found it anyway.I still don't understand why they need an intact brain for rabies testing, considering all the high tech medical advances we've made in the last 100 years. Since rabies is transmitted thru saliva, why can't they just test the saliva? Whatever.

Rabies cannot be cultured. What they do is a titer test. The titer indicates an exposure to the virus. It takes time for the body to display a presence of a reaction to the exposure to rabies. It can sometimes take months for symptoms of rabies to show.dbWhen I got my rabies shots as a kid I had been bit by a dog. The told us it would take 30 days to grow a culture to determine if the dog had been rabid. It would only take 2 weeks to contract rabies if the dog had been rabid. Go figure!

Its a blood test that test antibody-antigens in the patient. For instance if you had measles as a kid you should have the antibodies for it as an adult. That would produce a positive titer. Health care providers get the Hepatitis B shot that cause us to develop an immunity to Hep B. Our blood test produce a positive titer. If not you need more of the antigen, which is in the series of shots. The rabies issue is why when you get bit by an animal that may have rabies you get the shots. It takes so long to deteremine if the animal is positive you will already have problems and then it to late to receive the shots. Rabies shot series are very painful, several shots and a large volume. Only given never received. Just like my mom told me to do. Hopefully I got that right. Been a long time since school. ScottSo what is a titer test?
