We all know how territorial those males can be during the denning season. I was wondering if going out a day or two before you intend to hunt to if it would be effective to go out with coyote urine and making a fake scent post in an area where you know there are coyotes. During those couple of days before you actually hunt the local dominant male is likely to find that scent post and be PO'ed at the "intruder".Would that dominant male then be more likely to respond to your howl's in his territory if he upset from the scent post's you've made previously?

That's an old trick and is used by a lot of contest callers...Walt

I was just talking to a guy from Colorado the other day. He said he used to get road kill cats "wink" and take its entrails to put in a jar. He would mix it with the droppings from the litter box t home and leave it set during the summer. I am assuming the lid was kept on the container. ;) Whe the weather got colder and the pelts thickened, he would go out early in the morning and paint a fence post with the magic potion. He would hide 75 to 100 yards away and wait for the yotes to catch the scent. He said the days with a slight breeze were the best for this type of hunting. Sounds like a fair amount of work. I think I like using calls better. But then again, I haven't painted any fence post with the "bait" either.I wonder if that would be considered bait in CA? I bet if the technique works real well, it is probably illegal in CA. db

I saw a road runner run across a dirt road last week right in front of me. I waited for a coyote to follow close behind but nothing showed up. Maybe because the road runner didn't beep beep?

Could've been the wrong road runner species?
