I just finished converting my Ruger 10/22 to the 17 Mach 2. The conversion was very easy. Took only about 20 minutes. It came with a thumb-hole stock and a .920" barrel. I have yet to fire it as, so far today, we have had 12 inches of snow!! Has anyone else done this conversion that could share any information how they like it? Here is the website: E. Art I bought my conversition kit from Boyd's gunstock and converted mine. I am more than happy with it. You might try Rimfirecentral website I know a few guys over their have used the kit you purchased. Robert

I've considered it, but my 10/22 is a jam-o-matic as is and I'm afraid those problems would carry over with the conversion kit. I have already tried a VQ extractor etc but it still jams too often and a lot of light strikes too. (probably the only Ruger I'll ever own)

It's not JUST the firing pin because I also get a lot of stovepipe jams. I purchased this 10/22 about 5 years ago and these problems have existed since day 1. I thought they were just normal. I tried a new VQ extractor and hammer/sear combo to no avail. I had a thread on rimfirecentral a few years ago on my problems and one of the big gunsmiths on there told me I got a bad bolt assembly from the factory something about it not being fixable. I added up the cost of a new bolt assembly plus shipping and figured it's not worth it. Plus I have doubts it will ever really work right.I never shoot it anymore (it's been 22 months) it just takes up space in the safe. I'll probably sell it to a gun shop for $50 at some point just to get rid of it.

Stiff Neck,Have you considered putting the original parts back in it and sending it to Ruger to let them fix it?A17Shooter

I have seen some of the most beat up 10/22s one guy had taped up the stock he ran it over it still fires today. The other guys 10/22 was very old rust never looked like it ever got cleaned he told me it would not fire so i looked at it the barrel was lose i pushed it in tightened the front screw and it works fine now I could have bought that thing cheap too before i fixed it.... .10/22 has to be the best built 22 out there today.Try changing the clip on yours my marlin would jam all the time it was double feeding i finally changed the clip and it works good now no jams at all.good luck

There are a lot of bad 10/22s. That's why there are so many aftermarket parts. I have a bunch of different mags for it, the steel lip Butler Creek mags jam if they're not held in straight (too much slop in the fit) but the standard mags feed fine. I've cleaned the heck out of the mags and the rifle to no avail. I always keep the rifle clean, that's not the issue. I have all the original parts except for the recoil spring. I was told to clip off one loop but that didn't do anything good or bad. I don't know if I want to put any money into this rifle. I think I'd rather sell it at a loss and purchase a new one than fix this one up. Am I weird?

I built mines from one of the kits from Boyd's. Great package deal and looks very nice in my opinion.

I put mine together with a Boyds stock and EA Brown barrel. Shoots one hole at 50 yds. I tore up a couple of dozen jacks this weekend. Great shooting gun. Scott

Whats the range on the 17HMR. With my 1022 anything with in 75 yards is dead (rabbits and squirrels). I Dont whant to take something apart and replace it with something thats not going to improve it. I never shot the 17 HMR round. and I dont know how it acts so please fill me in thanks all. :(

17HMR makes them deader and does it faster (not many crawl offs) and with zero drop at 75 yards. 100 yards is easy, 150 is starting to push it's limits for quick kills. Compared to a 22lr, you're tripling your range and you get more explosive impacts too. Almost no recoil just like 22lr and not much louder.

I think he was talking about the HM2 not the HMR. Whole nother animal. With the HM2 Ive made some 100 yd shots with it so far. Id try a bit further without the wind. I shoots much flatter & faster than a 22lr that its appeal. Scott

the 17M2 is actually a 22lr that has been necked down to a 17 caliber; it doesn't have as much punch as a 17 HMR.

It wasn't made to compete with the HMR. It competes with and nails the 22lr. Find someone who has a 17m2 and doesn't love it... I think you'll be hard pressed to do so!

I don't own one either, but have you seen some of the pictures from when Bill D has taken his out? As I recall, he has actually even taken two coyotes with his M2.

A good thing about the HM2 is.....At CDNN, you can buy a box(50 rounds) of CCI ammo for $3.99 :)I'm going to order a couple of bricks soon.

Average HM2 ammo runs between $5.00 to $6.00... So it is relatively close to HMR prices. CDNN probably just ordered a truckload and is trying to get rid of it...

I don't see the real useful purpose of the M2. My big fear would be wrong ammo in gun if you had them both on the same adventure. I guess I'm just fearful (rightfully so) of my lack of organizational skills when in the heat of battle with GS's.

Dale,I've never see the two rounds side by side, but I'd guess it would be like seeing a 22 short sitting next to a 22 lr.

Looks exactly like the difference between 22lr and 22mag side by side. Very little chance of confusion. A great little rimfire cartridge. The M2 did a great job on squirrels at 75-100 yards when the wind was down. Wouldnt mind having a HMR also though. Scott
