Fox season opens next month (Along with badger) and I was curious how often you guys see them, not counting those retarded little kit foxes! :rolleyes:

Never. I don't even know the season dates etc. Tags required? Which types are legal?

Shooters right on the mark. All of the foxes but the grays are protected in CA. The San Joaquin Kit is on the State and Fed endangered species lists, so it's a no, no as well. The reason a lot of the members won't see gray fox when they are calling in CA is because we call in areas where there is open space to shoot. Grey fox really prefer the denser vegetation. The one Lil'Shooter and I saw this past weekend was in very-close quarters with plenty of dense brush. The one we saw was as agile as a cat. They are also not opposed to go arboreal when they hunt, or they are pursued by other predators or hounds. When they try there luck in more open areas, they become food for yotes, and they know it.

Gray fox may be taken as follows: (1) Season and Area: November 24 through the last day of February, statewide. (2) Bag and Possession Limit: No limit. (3) Dogs may be permitted to pursue gray fox in the course of breaking, training, or practicing dogs in accordance with the provisions of Section 265 of these regulations. John, where did you get those dates? I just checked the DFG website and it said the 16th.Season opens November 16th along with Badgers. You only need your hunting license for them.Chapter 5.
