Last weekend my buddy called and asked if I wanted to take a drive down to the refuge for a afternoon hunt. Decided, why not, family was going to the mall and I don't do malls!! 4 Hours, 18 decoys, 2 guns and a loooong walk later we had some success! 5 specks ( 1 banded), 2 green-heads, 1 bull sprig and a drake gadwal. Not too bad...............ErichPosted Image

Specks were working well that day. Partner had 4 come in while I went over to jump up some mallards. He got a triple with the one band. Later a pair came in and I smoked them at 25 yds. Ducks were all less than 20 yd. shots, love it when they suck right in.

It seems as though the widgeon are flaring everywhere this year, it's very odd. One look at the spread and they are out. The only kills have been unlucky passers. It's been that way at every place I've hunted.

Jeff, Sunday (11th) I had widgeon in range 4x, but my partner was working specks every time. He wanted the specks and mallards, I didn't care. But it was his spot and I like the specks too, I ended up with 4 teal that were in the decoys. Had the widgeon from 35 - 20 yds., next time they will die unless the specks are under a 100.

Good shooting sounds like fun.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

At Yolo the widgeon have been decoying very well. It has been the primary bird for us when we have hunted it. They never fully land in the spread, but work multiple times around 10-15 yds overhead.
