This was especially frustrating because I even bought all of the roll punches and tools that are recommended for installation. I tapped it a few times and .... well, you see the results.

Why's that? Several of the manufacturers do it already. Some do add an "R" onto the serial number to indicate it has been recast.That sucks Heath-I hope they take care of you but I can't see them casting you another one with the same serial number though.
