The season is 3 weeks old and finally it's cold here on long island NY. Since i have no deck's or dog i;am minus a boat and i forgot my calls at home all i have is feet and the knowledge of my spots today it payed off . About 1000 yrd's in on the river theres a large island across a 150 ft wide creek it's another 1500yrds long and for 2 hours before and 2 after low tide you can retrive everything and the ducks come in to feed in the low tide pools it's perfect for my needs . right off the bat i was blessed at the opening of the creek as i walked up 6 snow geese sitting in the mud i'am loaded and walking right for them i'am 20 ft from them and they swim off into the channel and deep water never lifting off i feel good birds are here . I walk 10 feet on the edge of the cat tails and there about 60 feet out in the first puddle is a snipe and i have cover so i wait ,Ive never shot one before so i was jacked up . It took about 3 minutes and he jumped up five strokes in i had him beaded about 4 ft off the ground and launched my 3'' blackcloud he dropped strait down i put him in my pocket and went to my spot about another 750 yards up about an hour later a green head and his hen swim in about 500 yards to feed 15 minutes later creeping the reeds i'am 60 ft away again and waiting on them 5 minutes later they where up i beaded the drake and first shot wobbled him and second 100ft full choked dropped him in the thick cattails i couldn't find him looked for a long time but he must have found cover but he looked real dead going down . 2 1/2 hours later a gaggle of goose flew 70 ft over my head into a strong 25 mph west wind and the blackclouds dropped a big one great day in the snow wind and cold here in NY wish i found that drake but i have these to remeber this hunt by Posted Image Posted Image frozen ponds and snow covered golf courses = waterfowl in my hood meeting my 835 wing shooter

Congrats on the goose but that doesn't really look like a snipe. It looks more like a Yellowlegs or possibly a Dowitcher.Snipe are generally flushed as singles and say their name as they flush.
