I was driving through Antioch today and look to my left and there was a coyote standing in the grass and it looked like he was a pointer pointing a quail in Georgia. I couldn't believe what I saw so I drove to the light and waited to make a U turn. It took at least five minuets. I got turned around and he had not moved. I stopped at the side of the road and he did not move. He was within 50 yards. Since I was in the middle of town and all I had to shoot him with was my camera I got it out and just when I went to take the picture the battery went dead. For any of you that know Antioch I was on Deer Valley going from the freeway toward Lone Tree. He was no more than 400 yards from Deer Valley High School. Wish I had the picture.

I'm sure he was trying to locate something in the grass, probably a mouse they are fabulous mousers. :( Their ears are radar dishes for any sounds and they see and smell well too.

I did but by the time I made the change he was gone. It would have been a great picture.I am sure he was hunting something. I was amazed that he stayed so still for so long so close to so many people. He must have been there for almost ten minuets. I have a Friend with a pointer that won't hold that long.

I see a yote almost everytime I drive by Sysco foods on hwy 99 to Sac. There is a road and it goes a ways down I wouldn't mind taking a look to do some scouting. But ya they have to stay still for a long time they don't get to go home to dog food bowl. Takes a lot of mice to fill that belly.

I had a coydog that did that would freez up then jump in the air and get the mouse, grass hoppers ect . cool thing to see.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I have seen that on two different occasions. Both times it was from a tree stand while bowhunting elk. The coyotes were hunting mice in the grass and had no idea that they were being watched. On both occasions I was able to watch them for quite a while. Neat.

Heath,No, I didn't try on those. I had visions of a royal bull elk showing up at any time. ;) The only time I ever drew a bow on one I got snookered. I saw one coming down an old overgrown skid toward me. When it was out of sight I came to full draw. It started to jump over a log about 15 yard in front of me and seemed to swap ends in the air and disappear. A couple of my hunting buddies have shot them from tree stands though.Rod
