I just got a 92 ford explorer 4x4 4door with auto trans. I need some help and idea how to rig it up. I like to build custom rifle box and sleeping area in rear.I like to see picture of your rig and idea how to build it. May be cut roof in rear for night hunting. this will be use only for hunting and camping. may be camo the rig. Thanks in advance.

First, kac897 welcome to the Best Predator Hunting forum around. Second, how much money do you plan on spending? From your post, you are looking at a fairly large project. Nothing against Fords but you should probably start with making the drivetrain as reliable as possible and work up from there. Nothing worse than being in the back country and not being able to drive back out. My hunting rig is a Jeep TJ so I definitely don't sleep in it. Naps maybe but not deep sleeping. I have a Cote Tent for that. Good luck and keep us posted on your project hunting rig! :) again!

Yep don't cut the hole because you can't hunt like that in California anymore. If you are on private property with absolutely NO public access you can shoot ground squirrels and such from a parked engine off vehicle. But night hunting from something like that in California is a BIG NO NO!

Reliability is the main issue. I thought I was saving a bundle by buying my old full sized Cherokee but I had to dump a wad of cash into it to make it truly trailworthy. I'd start with the drivetrain as the other poster said. You want to be able to get out and back home without a tow truck. Cut the hatch if you don't mind driving into Nevada where that's legal shooting. You can also roll & light there legally. There are plenty of helpful people here to answer questions and make suggestions. I'll try and get out and snap some pics of my old rig and post them. Maybe it will help you out a bit.

When did they change that law. It use to be you could legally light from your truck ( not shoot ) as long as the truck was off the road with the motor off but you had to be in a legal 12 volt lighting area. I had maybe 10 trucks set up that way over the years and never got stopped by the DFG. I'd cut a hole in it and start hunting Nevada where your still free........Good hunting

Danny I think you misunderstood my meaning of can't hunt from it. You can still use a light from it in the 12 volt areas. But no you can't shoot from it.
