The "Fork" only has to be on one side but it must be in the "upper 2/3 of the antler"Generally, most zones require a deer having one or more forked antlers. So basically, it can be a 1x2, 2x2, 3x5, 2x4, 9999x123456789, or whatever. It just has to have at least one fork on one side and eyeguards don't count, although I've never seen a spike (AKA a 1x1) with eyeguards. Game warden told me a long time ago that a good way to tell if you can consider it a valid "fork" or "point", is that you should be able to hang a ring from it (like a wedding ring or key ring) with the antler pointing up at a 45* angle and have the ring dangle without falling off or touching the antler in any other spot.

Eye guards for sure absolutely DO NOT count as a point.Back East what we call out West a "Forked Horn" (2X2) is considered a "6 Point" if it has eye guards.Edited to addBraz beat me by a minute.Even if only one horn have fork, he is legal! and yeah eyeguard's count... that is of course if you can find a spike with eye guard.

What does that tells you? It means I'm not reading my DFG regulation. Thanks for correcting me Braz. Mac would have been ticketed and sued me for giving him wrong advice. Not to argue DF, but eye guards are NOT to be counted. Here is the section from the DFG web site.§351. Forked-Horn Buck, Antlerless and Either-Sex Deer Defined. (a) Forked-Horn Buck Defined. For the purpose of these regulations a forked-horn buck is defined as a male deer having a branched antler on either side with the branch in the upper two-thirds of the antler. Eyeguards or other bony projections on the lower one-third of the antler shall not be considered as points or branches.
