KNOCKED UP

Cold weather

Recommended Posts

This morning I tried to load some 223, my reloading shop freezing, (Snow on the ground) so I fired up the wood stove.

my powder was sticking to the funnel, although it still measured accurately.

I need to see if the shop is warm now.

Please let me know if you had difficulty in cold weather.

Tom

It is the static from dry air causing that Tom, not the cold weather. It happens even in warm, dry weather. One of several reasons I don't use plastic funnels anymore.

Thanks Bob,

I am using H335, so I can drop my powder directly from the powder drop,

Now I see another problem, my bullets 68 gr. BTHP are getting scratches at the tip, and squeezed at the tip of the bullet.

I flushed the die with WD 40 so it is clean, but maybe the cold is contracting the die.

I've also heard that the static clean sheets used in your dryer help if you wipe the plastic with it. Worth a try.

If I had to guess I would say you are hitting the top before the body of the heater is hitting the olgive. Your seater is probably not meant for those long, sleek, heavier bullets. Just a guess.

Bob,

I have never had to reset my dies as long as the set screw was tight.

I did reset my die and that solved most of the problem.

I called RCBS, they said to send the die in and they would polish them at no cost.

 I love RCBS customer service.

Tom
