6mm - What would you pick as a varmint load?

Recommended Posts

OK guys...which powder and bullet combo would you select?  The asterisks (*) indicate the most accurate load....  55 gr. lead free Nosler 6mm-243

Lots of considerations...powder..quantity..speed...wear and tear on the barrel..accuracy.   What would you pick?

I'll stay with my old standby powder for my 6MM Remington and you know what that is Rob.

I like using 43 grs, of Varget  in my Remington 700 VS. I shoot either the Nosler  or Sierra 55 gr. bullets. Both loads shoot very accurately. I mostly use these loads for shooting squirrels. However one day when I was out shooting squirrels  a coyote walked broad side right in front of me about 30 feet away.  One shot right behind the shoulder and it was all she wrote. Fell dead in his tracks ( no spins).

Bisley put put in some work for me here   Check it out.

That data has led AND non led bullets shown as the same. That is weird because a 55g LF bullet is longer then it’s led counterpart.

I went with Varget and used Hogden’s load data.   They’re MAX load is less then Noslers starting load which raised my eyebrows!  I’m going to try some RL-19 next

I like loads that run close to 100% loading density, if possible so it's hard to argue with the W760 and Big Game data.
