Summer Perching

12 posts in this topic

We've been spending time at the shore chasing the perch bite. My daughters really took to it last year and we decided to hit hard this summer. Over the course of a dozen trips they've turned into shore fish assassins. Casting, catching, unhooking and releasing all on their own. Here's a few shots.

Nice job catching those perch. It looks like an overcast, yet fun day.

It brings back a lot of good memories for when I was younger surf fishing for perch and whatever else would bite that day.

Those are so good to eat. Of course it fun just catching them too. Did you take any home for dinner?

We took a few hogs home at the beginning of the summer to eat, but perch give birth to live young and many had a few dozen baby fish inside when we filleted them. I even caught a few large females that spit out live fish as I was unhooking them. After the first few trips, it was all catch and release.

It's great to be able to get the family involved. What bait were you using? Normally this time of year is loaded with sand crabs...the soft shelled ones are especially good for corbina, that's if you can keep the perch off them.

Great job getting the kids out. They all love catching fish. You know you have done it right when they enjoy fishing when not catching.

Nice looking perch. I was also out on the same day but wasn't able to find the fish. I now know why....I wasn't fishing in your area. LOL. Congrats again on the awesome fish!

That's cool man. I took my son and his friend out last week just goofing around in El Segundo for an hour or so. We only caught one but it was huge on some mussel. I cooked it for dinner for my wife. She let me have a little bite- it was great, but I knew that already. My spot in El Segundo hasn't been so good lately- I need to head further north, I think.
