Bought a New Toy!

18 posts in this topic

New to Me at least. Its a Winchester M670 in .243 Cal. It was purchased new in 1973. It has the Bosch and Lomb scope that was purchased at the same time as well. The glass seems very clear with fine crosshairs. The scope is mounted on a flip away mount that allows for use of the Iron sights on the rifle. The rifle is in really nice shape. The stock for the most part still has the high gloss finish it had when purchased. Im looking forward to getting it out of " Gun Jail" in about 10 days. I really liked the look of this rifle, and Got a good deal on her too! Here are some pics.

VERY nice, Grant, although I couldn't find "Remington" printed on it anywhere?? (j.k.)

That is a very good looking, classic rifle... And of course that caliber is always an excellent one. It will definitely serve you well & look forward to your reports on her.

All The Best :good:

Does this mean when I come down for a bit of coyote shooting we will be using rifles instead of handguns?

Very nice! I know that most people don't use them anymore but I love guns that wear a set of iron sights for backup.

Beautiful rifle. Even though it is highly inefficient, the .243 is one of my favorite rounds (got 3 of them). Do you already have set plans for it ie. predator gun, or deer rifle, etc.? Or was it just too pretty to pass up?

Robert, if the barrel is worn out, Id most likely get an aftermarket barrel. However the rifle does not show tons of wear, so Im hoping that the chamber is still in good shape.

Bisley, I rarely hunt anything but Coyotes and Varmints, so I plan on trying Coyotes with it. I already have a Rem 700 in the same caliber, so I have all of the reloading stuff as well. I have to admit, the shape the rifle was in was a major point. Other than a couple 22's this will be My first Wood stock on a centerfire.. It will also be the first Winny I have owned.

Grant, Hang on to the Rem 700, maybe we can work up a deal. Tom

Great choice of caliber, I LOVE my .243! I've shot everything from marmots to bears with it. I've had my Weatherby Vanguard for 20 years now and love it just as much as the day I got it. Mine's accurate as all get out. Great deer and coyote round, and with that setup you can hunt just about anything and anywhere here in Cali! Congrats!!!

Thanks Chuco.. this will be .243 # 2. I do like the caliber, but kinda fell in love with the 35 year old Winny when I saw it. I can pick it up this week!
