Rem 700 VTR 223/243

6 posts in this topic

Hey everyone. I am curious about the legality of trading rifles. I have a Rem 700 VTR in 223 and am looking to upgrade to a Rem 700 VTR in 243 if at all possible. I do not want to buy a whole new rifle just for the slight change in caliber so I was wondering if there was anyway to do a 1:1 trade with someone and just switch registration and ownership of the two rifles. Seems like kind of a long shot, but I was just curious. I also have a Shepard V2 scope mounted on the rifle (caliber specific to 223) that I could throw into the deal or sell separately. Not sure if any of this can be done, but I am just curious and am very interested if possible. Any information helps. Thanks,Robbie

You have to take both rifles to an FFL and pay the fee to do a transfer, whether the private parties are exchanging money or not.

I thought on private party to private party transfers it was a no waiting period situation at least on rifles
