Los Padres Skunk

6 posts in this topic

I went up to the Los Padres National Forest to do some small game hunting and came up with a skunk. Not the stinky black and white kind either. I got to the area I wanted to hunt off Highway 33 at about 4500 ft at about 06:30. Walked around until about 12:00. I saw a lot of quail but could not find them in the brush before they took off. I didn't see any rabbits. I have concluded that the particular area I hunted was not very air gun friendly. Too much chaparral to get a clean shot. I think my next trip will be near Garlock Rd south of Ridgecrest or the Lone Pine area where I have a better chance of a clear shot.

Sorry to hear about getting skunked! Now that you've seen where the quail came from, perhaps if you head back out there and wait nearby for 20 to 30 minutes you might see them come out of their hiding places. I'm not sure, it's just a thought. Hopefully you'll find some productive locations for using your air rifle.
