Little Grass Valley 6-16/17/18

4 posts in this topic

Headed up to Little Grass Valley Mid Day on Firday, Great cool weather. Fished saturday morning from 5:30 until 8:30 and Sunday morning from 6:00 until 9:00. Very Very Slow, boated one brown and three kokanees on saturday and one Kokanee on sunday morning. Did not get as much fishing time in, was also doing the dad thing. Group of over thirty familys that go every year and very few quality fish caught, saturdays big fish was a 14" rainbow. Fishing was not worth the drive, but relaxing and spending time with family and friends was priceless. Robert

That lake holds some monster browns. But the water is warming up now so the fishing isn't as good. But we used to fast troll the banks and rip for them there and catch some nice ones.

It's been two years since I was there last but all fishing was better twenty years ago. The best fisherman won't tell you the secrets to catching the bigger fish. If you know the technique and put in the time and effort you will catch some bigger fish. Browns are predators and work the points and drop-offs where they can ambush their prey. The fall and winter are the prime times to catch the BIG one. But you can read and learn. 15 years ago you could still catch big browns at Oroville too. While trolling for the King salmon they planted back then you could see browns over ten pounds cruising the surface like sharks. Awesome fish and I guess they were the sharks of the fish species back then. But they all died off due to poor fish management by fish & game.
