A Much Quieter Discovery

17 posts in this topic

I bought and received a 6.5 inch carbon fibre wrapped LDC from MikeT.My Disco went from "scares all the squirrels " loud to very very quiet. Installation was quick and painless.I live in such a rural area and almost all gamo springers have similar looking brakes..I seriously doubt anyone would say a word about it. the entry hole where it slides over the barrel is so small that I don't know of even one rifle barrel that it would fit on.Here is a stock picture as I have not had a chance to take any yet. I spent the whole weekend winterizing the house and only had time to install and shoot a few times.I'm extremely happy with it.Ronpost-3-1265160323.jpg

Nice Ron! It looks slick can't wait to see a picture of it on the Discovery. Just don't attach it with one of Cliff's special bolt holders. :signs1180lq:

Welcome to the Quiet Disco Club. I love how much it knocks the noise report down on mine. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

Hi guys , I have a Disco too .22 and I wanted to make it quieter and order one just like the one on the picture and after installing it there was a little sound difference but it was shooting about an inch or more to the left at 20 yards , why ? who knows I think it was the effect of the air as it leaves the shroud , I took it off and now it's sitting in my tool box , but I still want a much quieter Disco , I bought my shroud from Mountain Air airguns I wonder if it's the same type it looks the same to me , maybe I'll try one of those where can I get one ?

When you remove the stock muzzle brake, which stabilizes the barrel, sometimes adding a "shroud" will change barrel alignment...I've read much about this on the "Yellow" forum for the Discovery...some guys there have moved the barrel band forward to compensate...others have not had an issue...Look close at your stock Disco muzzle brake...the bottom is shaped to contour of the air tube/fill cap.....this restricts barrel movement...

I thought I read where someone was producing barrel bands for these guns. I'll have to see if I can't find that again.

On the Discovery forum...these barrel bands have an "O" ring that help stabilize barrel near the shroud...http://www.network54.com/Forum/581291/thre...59/Barrel+bands

"carbon fibre" (like material) wrapped LDC...just a covering...some are painted,aluminum polished,etc....

A buddy and I cut the original fill cap tonight to fit...doesn't look too bad. I still need polish it and even the sides up. The O-ring is the key to keeping it snapped on. I had to cut the O-Ring but maybe will try something different later.
